“We’ll find him,” Dane said, then pointed at the dead man on the floor. “Will you help get rid of this?”

“Yeah. I can get a crew out here to clean it up.” Brody replied.

I cried out as Dane snatched my arm again and yanked me out of the parlor. I tried to pull away, but he was too strong. “Dane! You’re hurting me!”

“Good!” He growled and dragged me into a private office.

He slammed the double doors shut and turned around. His nostrils flared as he glowered at me. “Michael must be… What? Four years old now?”

“Yes. He will be five in September.”

He stalked toward me, with his hands balled into fists at his sides. “Why the fuck didn’t you tell me I had a son!”

“Because I never wanted this life for Michael! You’re a corrupt and dangerous man, Dane Neri. Now you’re waging a bloody war in this criminal underworld you live in. I’m protecting MY son. I don’t want him to end up like you or dead!”

His hand shot out, wrapping around my throat, and squeezed. I dug my nails into his wrist as he choked the air out of me. “I could kill you right now with my bare hands. Tell me where Michael is now!”

“Let. Go. Of. Me!” I raged at him. He let go. I sucked in a gulp of air. “He’s safe. I have a beach house in Cape May. He’s there now with his nanny, Anna.”

“He is not safe! We’re driving up there. Now.”
