The petite blonde hit the floor with a thud and she didn’t move.Shit.

“Anna, come on, honey.” I pulled her toward me, yanking the mask over my head to press it against her face.

“It’s too late. The drug’s already in her system,” Kilpatrick growled as he made his way toward Lazarus.

Still, the asshole didn’t go down. He just gripped the corner of the bench, his unfocused gaze trying to narrow in on Kilpatrick as he slurred, “I’m going to fucking kill you.”

Alexi neared Lazarus and through his mask, he asked the question. “Did the Rossis order the hit on the Salvatores?”

My eyes watered as I pressed the mask over Anna’s face. “Anna…come on,breathe.”

She did, but it did nothing to help. Instead, she just retched again, before blindly shoving the mask away. With a snarl, I yanked it down over my face once more and shoved up from the floor. The rich asshole was on the floor now, spine curled, his knees drawn to his chest, moaning loudly. At least I knew he was still alive. I pushed past him, slammed down on the door handle, and screamed at the guard on the other side.“Open this fucking door! NOW!”

“The truth, Rossi,” Kilpatrick commanded through his fucking mask.

“Open this door!” I roared at the guard again.

He just shook his head, his muffled words coming through the door. “I can’t.”

“Fuck!”I swiveled to Alexi. “You’re fucking killing them, you get that, right?”

He just jerked his head up and shook it. “No. It’ll be out of their systems in five hours.”

Fivefuckinghours. As I met his gaze, I knew…he’d done this before.Jesus fucking Christ.Anna released a low, tortured moan as her arms buckled, sending her body crashing to the floor.

I wrenched my gaze above my head to the fucking flapping plastic. I couldn’t feel my damn feet as I moved, couldn’t feel much at all as I dragged a stool out from under a bench and tried to focus.

“Tell me the truth,” Kilpatrick cried, yanking Lazarus up by his shirt.

“Get the fuck off me,” Lazarus slurred, and tried to shove him away.

But Alexi wasn’t backing down. He grabbed Lazarus as he started to slide, and took him to the floor. “Tell me the truth, Rossi.”

“No,” Lazarus mumbled. “No, we didn’t order the goddamn hit. You think we’d do that?”

Alexi froze, his hands still fisted in Lazarus’s shirt. He let one hand go and reached for his pocket, dragging his phone free. One press of a button and he aimed the camera at Lazarus once more. “Who ordered the hit, then?”

“I don’t fucking know,” he insisted, then shoved Alexi away and rolled, his spine bowing as he heaved. “You think we’d do something like that? We’re not fucking animals.”

“Can’t trust…” Anna murmured, drawing my gaze.

Alexi straightened and lowered his phone.

“Can’t trust the Salvatores. They'll kill us.”

My blood ran cold as she murmured.

“Launder their money and run. They’ll kill us…that’s what he said. Can’t trust…can’t trust any of them.”

That icy touch moved deeper as I took a step toward her.

“Going to war,” she whispered. "They’re going to start a war.”

I snapped my head to Alexi. But it was too late, the phone was aimed at her face, capturing every word.

“He’s going to find where Dad is hiding. He’s going to kill us all…”

“Anna,” I croaked, and moved closer.
