Boots thundered. The blinding white light flickered and dimmed behind me before it was gone. I was in the darkness once more, hurtling forward as Anna’s screams were followed by a deafeningboom!I left the endless hallway behind and stumbled into the open warehouse area. The faint white glow of a jet sat in the middle, but behind it, the grunts and thuds of men fighting echoed. I threw myself forward, then kicked something hard and heavy. I stumbled, windmilling my arms before I hit the concrete floor hard.

“What the fuck.” I threw my gaze behind me and stared into the wide open eyes of my bodyguard…Pavlov.

The sight, froze me for a second before I shoved close and felt for a pulse at his neck. There was none, and the memory of that blood along the hallway spurred me on more than ever before. Grunts and roars came from the shadows. But they weren’t the low, guttural sounds of Max when he fought. They were from a man fighting for his life, from a man who wasn’t used to violence…they came from Anna’s dad.

“Leave him the fuck alone!” Anna screamed.

I shoved forward at the sound and ran past the luxury jet, right into the back of the man who'd grabbed her, wrestling her to the floor as she tried to save her father.

“Get your fucking hands off her!”I screamed, and drove my fist into the asshole’s face.

The bastard whirled and fought me.

But there were two more.

Two that were circling Max. I caught the glint of steel, a knife…a gun, I wasn’t sure.

“Max, watch out!” I barked a warning.

He didn’t look back, didn’t take his eyes off the two who flanked him.“Take her and get the fuck out of here, Fin!”

“You fucker!” the bastard in front of me lashed out. Catching the blur from the corner of my eye, I ducked at the last second, then tucked my chin and charged him. There was no way they were taking her. No way they were hurting her. No way they’d kill my fucking bodyguard without me taking at least one of them.

No way they were surviving.

Not now…not ever.

I didn’t care who I had to hurt.

Not if it meant saving her.

“Finley?” Anna screamed.“Finley, NO!”

But I took the bastard down and hit him with all I had, driving my fist into his cheek until his head snapped to the side.“YOU ARE NOT LEAVING WITH HER!”

Steel glinted in the corner of my eye as he thrust upward, and I felt the sharp sting in my side. But Anna was there, lunging at his hand and tearing at his fingers as she tried to knee him in the balls, and it became all too clear that the glint had been a knife.

I gave a grunt before a bellow. “Anna!”

Then she was beside me, her perfect face so fucking clear to me in the darkness as she let out a piercing cry and punched the bastard in the face. “He tried to kill us…” Punch. “Tried to kill us all. Just like they killed Baldeon.”

I froze at the words, caught by the sight of the anguish on her face as she lifted her gaze to mine. “I’m so sorry…I thought you took my dad to kill him!” Her tears shimmered in the dark. “I thought…I thought…”

I lowered my gaze to the bastard underneath me as my focus adjusted to the dark. It was the instructor…the same one from that first class. The same one I'd seen outside the classroom after making love to Anna, the same one who'd lurked and hovered andseen.

He'd seen too much.

Heknewtoo much. “Is that true? You killed Baldeon?”

“Fin!” Max grunted as the sickening wet thuds of fists on flesh sounded. “Your mother.”

“He told us he’d keep us safe,” Anna cried. “Told us your father was going to war and that we’d be nothing more than collateral damage.”

I fisted the bastard’s shirt as that sting in my side grew talons and claws, spearing all the way inside my chest. But that pain was nothing, that paindidn’t fucking exist. Not in the wake of her words. “And yet you believed him?”
