All I needed to know was if he’d accessed it…and who else had seen the footage if he had.

Crack!

The gunshot tore through the air…followed bycrack…crack…crack!

“Shit!” I jerked my gaze to the blur as Lazarus raced forward, his gun held high. Then I saw them, the rush of dark blurs heading toward us…right in Anna’s path.

I saw her freeze. Saw one of the gunmen lift his gun and take aim…saw my entire future fade into darkness. But then the gunman dropped to the ground with barely apop! And he never rose.

I looked to where the shot came from, but the hitman was no longer there.

Crack…crack…CRACK!

The night erupted with gunfire.

Crack!Anna squeezed off a shot, missed, then took aim once more as Lazarus glanced her way, panicked.Crack! She pulled the trigger again, and this time hit her target.

The guy went down hard as I raced to her side. “Come on.” I tacked the movement. As four more came out of nowhere, charging forward, gunfire erupting.

PING!

The corner of the steel garage took the shot near my head. Anna jerked her gaze to the bullet hole, then to me. Her lips curled, and a look of pure savagery tore across her face as she turned back, stepped forward, and unleashed a scream.

CRACK…CRACK…CRACK!She pulled the trigger time and time again.

Lazarus rushed toward the house at the rear of the compound and spun, slamming his back against the outside as the door opened and two more armed security came rushing out.

Crack…crack!

They went down before they took three steps from the doorway.

He was inside in a blur, making me push harder as I ran. Anna was behind me, fucking fierce and ruthless. I lifted my gun, plunging through the doorway after Lazarus and was inside in a heartbeat.

The place was old and big, with no lights on inside to light the way.

A grunt came from in front…one that sounded like Lazarus.

Aslamfollowed. I caught the sight of Lazarus being lifted and hurtled through the air.Like fuck!I dropped the bag full of guns and charged, lunging for the asshole, tackling him around the middle.

But the dude was a beast. Big and muscled. He barely moved as I hit. Instead, he dropped Lazarus, right on top of me.

“Fin!” Anna cried.

From the corner of my eye, I caught her trying to take aim. But Laz was driving upward, letting out a brutal roar and unleashed his fists on the towering bull of a man. Seconds blurred, and with it, everything else.

I followed, shoved upward. Rage consumed me, mingled with the desperation to survive, I gripped the gun, shoved it into the asshole's side, and pulled the trigger.

The mountain flinched.

Boom…

Boom!

I squeezed twice more until the guard dropped to his knees. Hard breaths consumed me. I stepped backward and then turned. But the hallway behind me was empty. “Anna?”

I moved forwards, moving to the spot where she’d been a second ago, scanning the darkness.

But she wasn’t here…
