“He called them down and then…” I tried to find the words to explain.

But Kat just waited patiently, whipping a savage glare to anyone who dared snigger and look my way. “Come on.” She grabbed my arm and gave me a gentle push. “We can discuss this at home.”

Home.I tore my attention away from the front of the room and started walking, but my gaze gravitated over my shoulder as I smacked into a wall of muscle.

Midnight eyes bored into mine. “Anna,” Finley murmured, lifting his hand and running his thumb across his lips, drawing my focus to his mouth.

The mouth that had claimed mine before.

My lips parted with a breath.

I swallowed hard.

With a wicked smirk, he was gone, cutting through the crowd, his two babysitters following close behind.

Everyone stopped forhim.

Made room forhim.

They worshipped him like some god.

A god who right now was setting my soul on fire.

I let Kat lead me away from the lecture hall, making our way around the next building, then the next, until we finally found our way to ours.

“Thank fuck that’s over. You know, they actually made us do a personality test?” She shook her head and strode through the automatic doors into the foyer.

She put her hand on my shoulder, using me to keep herself steady, and slipped the pumps free. “God, that feels better.”

“You need some flats like mine.”

“Not even if my life depended on it,” she answered with a wink.

The elevator doors opened and we werehomebefore we knew it. Kat gravitated to the kitchen first, yanking open the black refrigerator doors and peering inside.

“This will do nicely.” She plucked a bottle off the shelf, then turned before freezing. “Umm…”

“You don’t know how to open a bottle, do you?” I stepped closer, shaking my head, and held my hand out. “Gimme.”

“You're a wonder,” she blew me a kiss. “‘Cause I have to pee really fucking bad.”

I worked off the wrapping and unwound the wire around the cork as the toilet flushed. What is she even doing here…the words repeated.A nobody…just look at her.I worked the cork free. But it was Finley’s lips that claimed me. My pulse raced with the thought of him. I’d been kissed before…but nothing like that.

I wanted more. More of him, even if he was dangerous.

Pop!

The scent of the sweet champagne hit my nose.

“Kat?”

“Hmm…” she was there, sliding onto the leather seat on the other side of the island…

A tremble cut through me as I imagined myself with someone like him.

I lifted my gaze and met hers. “The party,” I started. “You wouldn’t happen to have anything I could borrow to wear?”

The squeal was piercing as she clapped her hands. She positively beamed. “Fuck, I never thought you’d ask. I havethe perfectdressfor you.”
