No…nononono…I was going to throw up.

“Nowthatmakes this interesting,” Kilpatrick murmured.

My face burned and that burn traveled down my body. There was a look of horror on Finley’s face before he cut the room a bestial glare and strode away.

Champagne splashed on my hand as that fire inside me burned. I felt the weight of the stares of everyone in that room. A shudder coursed through me as Kat strode toward me. She glared toward the doorway as Finley left, then took one long look at me. “What happened?”

My throat thickened, strangling my words.

I looked away as tears threatened.

“Anna?” Kat’s voice softened.

I shook my head. I couldn’t tell her, my face was burning up with embarrassment.

“No.” The word burst out as I wrenched my gaze toward the doorway where Finley Salvatore had disappeared seconds earlier. “No fucking way.”

“Anna…” Kat warned.

But I was striding toward the doorway with the half empty glass of champagne in my hand, unable to quiet the roaring in my head a second longer.

Pathetic.

Unprotected.

Alone…

Anna

“Hey!”I barked as I charged through the doorway into the hall. Finley was striding toward the elevator, head down, shoulders hunched.

But he didn't stop at my yell, didn't even slow. He didn't acknowledge he'd heard me at all. Why would he? I was nothing, right, nothingand nobody.Just a kid…just in hisfucking way.Like I was ineveryone’sway.

“You fucking asshole!”I screamed and hurtled the glass at his head.“How dare you speak to me like that!”

It missed, shattering on the wall beside his head. Shards of glass flew through the air, hitting his face. But he did stop at that, freezing in the middle of the hallway. The two shadows at his sides were already turning and lifting their hands toward their guns. One careful wave from him and they were under control…like dogs on a tight leash.

Then he was moving, lunging toward me like a beast in full flight…terrifying…and tormented. He grabbed me around the throat with one hand. The sheer force of his body slammed me against the wall as we spun.

Agony tore through my head as I hit with aboom. Stunned, I stayed still, sparks colliding in my eyes.

“Anna,” he growled, his mouth so fucking close. “You make me so fucking mad.”

I couldn’t hear the party anymore, couldn’t hear the music or the laughter.

I couldn’t hear anythingbut him.

Him, with his perfect lips and his dark eyes.

“Go on,” I growled, my gaze boring into his.

His hand was on my throat, fingers curled like a fucking cage. My heart was hammering, the sound booming in my ears. Still, my fingers curled into fists at my sides.

“You. Belong. To.Me,” he growled, leaning into me. “Don’t you fuckinggetthat by now?”

I couldn’t speak, just stared into that bottomless soul of his. Hate and rage lurked in his eyes.
