“Anna!”

I swung my gaze over my shoulder. Desperation rose inside me, savage and hungry. I turned back and focused on where I was. It was another hallway…darkness sinking into nothing.

I wanted out of there and far away fromhim.

I swallowed hard and tried to think, tried to remember where the hell I was. The more I tried to find a way out of there, the worse my panic became.

“Stop running.”

I flinched and clenched my jaw at the sound of his voice.

“Anna…stop fucking running!”

I ran from one door to the next, testing the handles. Thethud…thud…thud…ofhis footsteps wasdeafening in the space. The sound of his boots mirrored the booming of my heart. Too close…too close…

Too fucking close.

Anna

“I said, stop!”he roared right behind me.

I lunged toward a dark doorway, smashed down the handle, and staggered inside. He was right after me, lunging like a predator to grab my arm and yank me around in the dark.“Stop fucking running.”

Motion-sensor-activated overhead lights blinked on, lighting up the space and the glint of steel all around me.

Guns…everywhere.

But he was unstoppable, driving me backwards with that grip on my arm. “I told you, don’t run from me!”

He grabbed my wrists and wrenched me against him.

“Get the fuckoff me!”I yanked one arm from his grasp and with instinct, I swung. The slap landed hard on his cheek, snapping his head to the side with acrack!

Sandy blond hair lashed his face. Harsh breaths claimed the air between us as he slowly turned that bottomless stare to mine. I swallowed hard as the skin of his cheek slowly turned red, the imprint of my hand clearly visible.

One shove and he pushed me backwards again with such force that I stumbled, then fell. My phone slipped from my hand, clattering to the floor with athud. As I went down,I clawed for a hold, my nails raking the rolled-up sleeves of his black shirt, clinging onto him and taking him with me. He punched out, taking the brunt of the impact and softening the blow a second before my head hit.

But he refused to budge, his weight holding me against the floor.

“You…” he started.

“Yeah, I kn-know,” I spat the words through clenched teeth. “Fucking pathetic, right? Just a goddamn virgin.”

I couldn’t stop shaking, couldn’t stop stuttering, couldn’t believe this was happening. My stomach hardened into a stone. But he didn't move, all hard muscles and hot skin. He was shards of glass and bloody knuckles. He was hate and fucking angst all wrapped up in one perfect package like a fallen angel in disguise.

“You think I’m embarrassed about that?” He leaned closer. “Christ, thinking about that drives me wild. I waited for you to come to my house, watching as you slipped into my fucking life with your goddamn numbers and innocent smile. I fucking fisted my cock thinking about you. You make me so fucking insane.”

My chest drove against his with a consuming breath. His big hands were on me, one pinning my wrist to the floor above my head as he stared at me with a gaze that both wanted to unburden his soul and devour me. “You…thought about me?”

The truth sparkled in his eyes. “Every fucking day.”

Guns and weapons lay all around us. Honed knives, the blades built to plunge deep.

And yet he never noticed, unable to tear his gaze from mine.

“You want toown me,right?” Those dark eyes glittered at the words. I waited for him to say the words were an accident, that they weren’t what he'd meant. But as I lay there with humiliation and hunger searing in my veins, I knew those words weren’t coming. Because he'd meant what he said.
