Lies.

I didn't move, didn't give her any reason not to trust me. “You took your backpack, Anna. You were leaving. I want to know who with…and where were you going.”

I could almost see her pulse jumping under her skin in that seductive hollow of her neck. I wanted to cover it with my hand, the webbing of my thumb pressed over the tremor. I wanted to capture every terrified thought inside her head and chain them to mine. My gaze moved to hers.Let me in.

But she didn’t. Instead, she closed down…like a trap around my heart.

The soft padding of feet drew my focus. Leale gave a sigh and flopped down in his bed in the corner of the room. She sensed him, and I knew without looking that he sensed her.Because he knew her.

Just like I knew her.

I lowered my head and shifted my body.

“Fin.”

“Shhh,” I whispered, and pressed my face into her neck. “No more lies now. We can save that for later.”

Somehow, I knew she wasn’t going to be that easy.

She would test me still.

Push me to the boundaries of my existence.

And I was ready for the chase.

Anna

My body ached and throbbed as I shifted in his bed…naked.

He nuzzled my neck, his warm lips finding that spot behind my ear, the one that melted me from the inside, sending a flare of heat between my thighs. I was taken back to the kiss outside the classroom on that first day of classes. It felt like a lifetime ago now. So much had changed…in me.

Tell him, that small voice whispered. I closed my eyes, unable to distance myself from his touch. “Finley.”

“Hmm?”

“I…” a tremor coursed through me as I fumbled for the words. “I need to use your bathroom.”

He pulled back and met my gaze. Gone was the lightning in his eyes. He was unfathomable once more, the kind of depth I could never reach, not in a million years. Fear coursed through me as he stilled, his weight pinning me to the bed, until he finally rolled to the side.

Relief was instant, driving me to scurry from his bed and rush to the bathroom, to find thathisbathroom had a damn door. I blinked at the sight and shoved it closed, hitting the light switch. The bright glare was instant, flooding the black and chrome bathroom.

I stumbled toward the toilet and sat, wrapping my arms tightly around my waist.Jesus…Jesus.Through the door, I could hear my phonebeepagain. There was only one person it could be. I emptied my bladder and winced at the swipe of toilet paper. But it didn’t hurt as much as it should.

I liked the sting…I liked what it meant.

The bed creaked, drawing my focus.Finley Salvatore.

My body trembled at the name, coming alive even after what had just happened between us.Holy shit, what the hellhadjust happened?I lowered my gaze to the juncture of my thighs. I just had sex is what had happened. Hard, consuming sex. The kind of sex that would leave a mark.

“Anna.” His voice came through the door. “Is everything okay?”

I stood and flushed the toilet before hurrying to the basin to wash my hands, and strode to the door. He was standing there in his boxers when I opened it, with a scowl on his face, one that smoothed as he scanned my naked body, lingering between my thighs.

“I’m fine,” I answered. “But I want to go now.”

There was a flare of panic as he jerked his gaze to mine. “You’re really not going to tell me, are you?”
