“Going to tell him when he gets here.”

The door to the diner opens. Enzo walks in. I get up at once, and head his way, tripping over a handbag as I go and landing right in his arms. “

“Thanks,” I say, craning my neck to look up at him. “That was a close one. Another couple of inches down your body and we’d have had to get married.” I think back to the last time we did this and it feels right to say the same words. They just fall out like a mantra, or maybe a magic spell.

He resists smiling but only barely, “Be more careful,” while holding onto me for a second too long. The smile that threatened to break out is there an instant later, broad and warm, easing the darkness of his eyes.

I stand upright, brushing myself down. “How did the meeting go?” I ask.

“Tests confirmed she is my foster mother. The body is being held with your parents' remains, ready to be reinterred when the permits come through for your land.”

“Which could take months.”

He shakes his head. “I made some calls. They’ll be in the mail tomorrow morning.”

“You’re shitting me?”

He points a finger my way. “You cussing again?”

I tingle deep inside, remembering last night when I cursed after stubbing my toe in the kitchen. “I’m still feeling it,” I tell him, shifting in my seat, the plug that’s back there moving inside me, making my pussy even wetter. “I put it in before coming here as you ordered.”

“Good girl. You better finish your dinner.”

Maisie appears as we return to my table. “What can I get you, big guy?” she asks.

“A coffee and a burger with fries.”

“Connoisseur of fine cuisine. That’s what I like to see. She can keep you, I give my permission.”

“Good to know.”

She walks off to the kitchen. “Think she can tell?” Enzo asks.

“What? That I’ve got a plug in me? I sincerely hope not.”

“I can tell her if you like. Hey, miss?”

I grab his arm. “Knock that off.”

He grins at me. “You remember what you said when I walked in here? Another couple of inches and we’d have to marry?”

“Sure I do, why?”

He pulls out a velvet box, sliding it across the table toward me. “How about we go ahead and do it?”

I open the box, looking at the sparkling jewels on the ring inside. “This must have cost a fortune,” I say as he pulls the ring out and slides it onto my finger.

“Two fortunes, actually, but it’ll be worth it as long as you say yes.”

“I’m going to say yes.”

“Go ahead.”

“When I’m ready.”

His expression darkens. “Want me to spank you right here in front of all these people?”

“Kind of.” I wink at him as he shifts in his seat like he might do it. “All right, yes. I’ll marry you.”
