The idea of even getting close to Willow irked me at first. Annoyed my thought process that a woman who smelled so divine and looked far too beautiful for real-life would try and defy us for the sake of her father.

We didn't know that it wasn't because of him.

Far from it.

We'd yet to graze the surface of who she really was, and yet it already felt like we'd walked into a maze of mystery with no way of returning to square one.

She left us lost in the shadows of her intriguing livelihood, and now only she would be able to find and deliver us to salvation.

Those amongst us may not know her predicament, but the idea that she was merely a human now felt absolutely preposterous, because she was far beyond that.

Something brews within those battered walls, fighting to grab our attention and ignite enough supportive encouragement to push her outward into the land of the surface world.

"Jayce."Dimitris's voice rushed through the pack bond that bound us all together."Check on her. Neo, secure the area. Saint and Onyx. You're with me. Onyx. Tell Viktor to wait on standby if Willow needs a ride home."

I was already moving through the stunned crowd and heading out the doors she'd walked through a moment earlier, the action somehow breaking the spell holding the room in captivity and igniting an uproar of cheers and cry outs with the acknowledgment they’d lost their bets.

It was all sound that buzzed in the background which I forced myself to ignore.

Turning the corner to the hall that harbored her locker room, I crashed into Onyx, which made me frown as I looked up at him.

"Didn't Dimitris tell you to help him out?"

"He did," he replied, his smoldering black eyes boring into my blue spheres.

"Then why-"

"Mirrors trigger her," he interrupted with the revelation. "She’s high on power. Dangerous when she's unstable and in heat."

"Wait. What do you mean she's in heat? She can't experience that since she's not a wolf."

"She shouldn't be able to break the bones of a Beta wolf with her bare hands, now should she?" he tossed back at me, which had me shutting up real quick. "If she panics, distract her, or toss cold water on her or something stupid. That's all."

He moved past me and down the hall towards the screaming crowd of people.

"Why aren't you doing this?" I questioned with a huff, and he stopped for a second to answer, "I have to help the fucker of an Alpha, remember?"

He was clearly referring to Dimitris and didn't seem pleased with the idea of not being with Willow, who I was sure he was madly in love with, but he couldn't go against Dimitris commands now that he was a part of our pack.

I watched as he went right back to walking and disappeared through the doors once more. Deciding to quicken my pace, I unlocked the door with the access code, which was technically illegal, but it was nothing for me to decipher and conquer.

Prior to my love for cars, my heart was in technology and anything that meant I was breaking the law. Hacking was my favorite thing, and now that we were in the shifter world of crimes, it seemed to be beneficial in so many ways.

I was inside but already taking in the shattered glass that littered the floor and the shaking arms with the bleeding fists that were filled with cuts. The ribbon I gave her was somehow neatly folded on the bench between the lockers as if it were far too precious to taint further.

Her eyes were open, but they held a void within them, and those teal turquoise jewels were no longer that. They were blazing gold with hints of pink that almost seemed unreal, and were filled with hatred. With thrilling desire to destroy her very reflection that had been shattered by her own hands and littered the floor in pieces.

The view triggered so many memories. The endless anger I harbored because I wasn't the best. I'd be defeated, again and again, a laughing stock to the family that had far too much hope in me. I was disgusted with myself, and would inflict pain upon myself in hopes of feeling more alive.

I begged for Mother Moon to take me from this world. To shatter the gift of life she'd humbly given to me and deliver it to someone else who was far more worthy and perfect than I. Those were the days when my life was nothing but darkness, and those memories were what pushed me every time I needed a reminder.

Willow was dealing with that in this instance. Viewing the world in a void that made her feel invaluable and weak. We may have thought crippling her would be a way to get at Roberto, but now that the tables had suddenly flipped and she was now a part of our pack, we wanted the complete opposite.

To help her rise up the steps of validation so she realizes she's one of us now. Us...

My discomfort and shock seemed to be enough to grasp Dimitris's attention.

"What's wrong, Jayce?"
