My very lethal best friend with a bigger temper than me.

She was the reason why I could switch between genders so easily without any lingering side effects. I found out rather quickly as a child that switching between genders absorbed a ton of magical energy, which took time to rejuvenate in an individual's body.

I may have been a greedy baby in the magic department, but it didn't make me invincible. That's where Aurelia came in.

She'd been giving me pills to aid in giving me a bit of a magical boost while I figured out a sort of routine to my gender swaps, which ended up being mornings having a cock and nights having a pussy. It was a difficult process to adjust to, but it allowed me to have the best of both worlds.

During the day as William De Luca, I gave the paparazzi, my apparent fan club, and anyone else who had something to talk about a show as I walked up the same set of stairs that led to NYC's tallest buildings that were under De Luca management.

I assisted with minor business things, like approving silly meetings and time off for our ten thousand employees from various locations within the vicinity of Wall Street.

The moment six o'clock hit, I was free to leave and do whatever, though I had been leaving a little earlier lately because I'd had less business to deal with when it came to paperwork.

With the fall season, it only made sense for less of our employees to take time off. Most were hard-working parents, needing the extra cash after a very speedy summer pleasing their children and taking loads of vacations. Now that the kids were back to school, it was their opportunity to start working overtime to save for the Christmas holidays.

Thinking about Christmas in September, if only I had such a loving parent who thought ahead for my sake.

Night was when I did whatever the fuck I wanted, but going to the underground was my favorite. I had to get out all of the tension from the long eight-hour shift. Sitting in suits worth thousands of dollars and dealing with a few obnoxious employees every day was enough to drive a few individuals crazy - including myself.

Other days I went straight to the bar to enjoy a drink or two and get lost in the booming music from the latest most popular DJ of the week. It was the perfect time for me to express my femininity by working my body on the dance floor versus in the ring, where everyone screamed for me to beat the shit out of people.

I began to wash up, working on my hair first because it was about time to give it a wash. I was tempted to switch back to my male counterpart just so I'd have my short strands of hair versus my long elbow-length pink strands.

I kept contemplating whether to cut it or not due to all the disadvantages a fighter like myself could endure with long hair, but then again, I lived for the significant difference of long hair versus the short tresses when I was a male.

It was just one of those many reminders that I was living the best of both worlds, so why screw it up out of impulse?

Once my hair was all washed, I worked my way down my body, turning the heat way up to aid in soothing my aching muscles, which were still bothering me. With the adrenaline all drained away, I was beginning to feel the strain of the fights.

Most of my opponents tonight were weak as hell, but the last one was a bit of a pain. I still kicked his ass, but it came with its own set of annoyances that added far too many bruises on my flesh for my liking.

That's the good thing about being able to use magic to heal yourself.

Though I lacked the supernatural healing speed of a wolf shifter, I did have a bit of healing traits woven into my magic that allowed me to heal myself. It was ten times harder to heal another person -trust me, I've tried -but aiding my own body was a piece of cake seeing as I knew where the flow of magic was going to.

Using a small fragment of the tingling energy that began to gather through my body, I mentally directed it where it needed to go, a soft sigh escaping my lips as the relief was far too good to ignore.

"What a time to be alive," I practically sang, swinging my hips to the booming music. Showers were one of my favorite activities. There was nothing like washing away the dirt, sweat, and blood from your flesh and letting the heat penetrate.

It was a daily reminder that I was alive, fighting to create a future of my own and not being molded into a being created to please someone else, like my dad.

My shower wasn't as long as I liked, but tonight would have me going home on my own accord versus Viktor driving me back. That meant walking back, not like it bothered me.

The underground wasn't far from my penthouse suite. One of the reasons why I invested in that specific complex was because it was connected to four of the most exquisite buildings on the block. Some rich fucker bought the entire land, brought down the previous stores and buildings that were barely surviving, and built four sixty-floor condos.

They were specifically for shifters and included top-ranked security. Needless to say, getting in had to either be an inside job or because they had a mage assassin with them, but you'd have to carry a great bounty on your head to get a M.A. on your ass.

That's what Aurelia says whenever some well-known celebrity suddenly shows up dead in their expensive complexes and it's not deemed a suicide.

Aside from my protective building, there were a few underground tunnels I could take, which was normally the case when I walked back on my own. I wasn't afraid to walk, but I had to weigh my options about whether I'd be jumped tonight from the various fights I'd dealt with earlier.

Most of them were rookies, and I wasn't worried about them.

That last guy, though. He's trouble. I can smell it.

Shaking my head, I finished washing up before I turned the tap off. I always gave myself a minute to stand in the shower and breathe. It was a serene, meditative moment for me while the beads of water ran down my curvy frame and dropped to the tiled shower floor.

Stretching my left arm over my chest to get a knot out of my neck, I noticed the wolf tattoo I'd gotten when I was sixteen.
