"So they want one of the bosses to be a woman," I summed right up. "Makes sense, and it would bring a new perspective and change in a man's world type of work environment. It actually seems like an inviting idea, one that makes me curious about whether I'd qualify.”

"You don’t need to apply," he jumped in, and I lifted my gaze from my beer to see him observing carefully. "I'm not telling you to try and convince you."

"I'm aware," I replied. "However, wouldn't that be a key advantage against Roberto and anyone else who's trying to fuck with us?"

He smirked at my usage of "us", which made me grumble something about having an ugly smile before taking a long swig of my beer.

"It's a huge opportunity to get some mega roots planted in NYC soil. With that on our side, it would be almost impossible for Roberto to try and find a way to kick us out. It's why he's frantic to secure it. He may use any tactic he can to try and claim it before we potentially do."

"Meaning?"

"A certain female family member is appearing to be an option for him," he declared, which made me pout.

"You're not serious."

"Dead serious."

"As if me being forced to work in his business for years in the spotlight wasn't enough, huh?" I shook my head. "Now I have to figure out what strings he's going to pull at to try and stop me from resigning, or, in this case, resigning and joining for what he’s assuming is this golden opportunity for him to win thanks to my forced participation."

"Blackmail?"

"Nothing to really blackmail me with," I admitted. "He doesn't have control over Onyx or Viktor, and they're protected by a clause which includes Aurelia."

"You made them sign a contract to be on your side?" Dimitris seemed intrigued.

"With a father who wishes to destroy everything that brings joy in your life, it was better to be safe than sorry," I concluded.

"Do we need a contract?" he muttered before drinking some of his water.

"I'm not important enough for such a thing," I casually replied, but noticed him pause in drinking more water to give me a look. It was hard to read because it was filled with anger and hesitation, which gave him a bit of a confused expression that I’d rarely witnessed.

"What?"

"That's not necessarily true," he grumbled as if it were hard to state.

"That I'm not important enough to you guys?" I acknowledged. "We're still practically strangers. At the end of the day, I'll never fit in right at home with being human."

"Have you ever once considered you could be a wolf?" he prompted as my eyes met his pink ones. "That for one moment you could see yourself being a wolf?"

"When you're chained by the neck, wrists, and ankles with blazing hot silver that burns into your flesh at a snail’s pace until it reaches your very bones and your wolf still doesn't show up to save the day, you begin to realize that accepting who you are is better than pretending you're something you’re not," I whispered before getting off the stool and finishing my beer. "I'm going to change."

I entered my room, but he was following me. "Why were you chained with silver?"

"Because Papa Dearest thought it would be a fun experiment," I simply summarized as I began looking for my male loungewear. I normally wasn't home during the times I lingered in my male form so I placed them somewhere I knew wouldn't get in my way.

"Why do you continue to call him Papa Dearest when he's far from it?"

"It's a reminder that a man, an apparent parental figure, was supposed to be dear to my heart but decided that greed for money, power, and fame was far more important than my life, values, and purpose. That no matter how dear I may wish for him to be within my heart that craves her daddy's love, it'll never be fed what it wants and always remain unfilled."

I let my towel fall as I found a pair of black boxers. I slid them on before turning to look at his concentrated expression that was focused solely on me.

Analyzing how he could fix my dilemma. Being the Wolf Alpha I'm sure I would have wished to have rather than a fucker I could never impress.

"Don’t bother hurting your pretty head," I concluded as I looked away to find my joggers. It didn't take long for me to discover the loose pants, and they were next to be slid on before I focused on him once more.

"So when's this deal? Is it one in steps or what?"

He arched an eyebrow at me and frowned.
