"No," he replied. "They've made enough ties that no one wants to fuck shit up. If a company, an organization, or even a tiny-ass shop goes against them after they saved them from the life beneath the shadows, they're cut off entirely and whatever happens to them are the consequences they have to bear."

"Wow." I was actually impressed. "That's fucking awesome," I praised.

"I knew you'd be moved." He smirked and stretched his arms. "I'm heading over. Your security guard for the remainder of the afternoon should be here shortly."

"Cool. Be careful and maybe try to be their friend instead of a quiet, stuck-up ass."

He gave me a look, which made me chuckle, but he nodded and headed out the door.

I went back to working on some investment plots while deciding what structure would benefit us if we did get this magnificent deal. It was only a matter of time before I’d be in the spotlight, but instead of me walking in suits and ties, I'll be in dresses and heels as Willow De Luca.

To say I wasn't nervous even a bit would be a blunt lie, especially with that lingering afterthought that the world would realize I was a cross-dressing female who did a damn good job at it. What bugged me was entering this new year without being a wolf, especially when my potential team consisted of lethal wolf shifters with their own unique sets of powers.

It doesn't matter, Willow. You've lived this long without being a wolf. You can survive the obstacles ahead.

You'd think by now I would have gotten over this mini identity crisis and accepted what I am, and yet accepting such a reality was like poking a bunch of needles into my heart, leaving it to bleed and fill my lungs with blood until I was unable to breathe anymore.

If I'm not a wolf...could I live the rest of my life being surrounded by those I wish to become? Could I see myself with Onyx...or even the Forbidden Pack? Would they even want me anymore?

"William."

The soft touch to my cheeks shocked me, but I didn’t flinch as I recognized the tender voice and looked up to see hollow eyes that stared into mine. A tear left my left eye, running down my cheek, but was interrupted as Neo's thumb brushed the droplet away.

"Do I need to kill the guard at the door?" he inquired, which made me blink in confusion.

"Guard?"

"Garfield."

"He still works here?" I genuinely questioned. I assumed he was fired or something.

"Yes," Neo declared with a smirk and brushed my cheek again. "Why are you crying?"

"I don’t even know." I chuckled like the whole thought was stupid. Neo moved his hands from my cheeks, giving me the space to compose myself as I searched for my handkerchief. I tried not to bring one because I never used it, but before I could pull open the drawer, a red one was presented to me with the initials N.R. at the corners.

"You can borrow it," he declared with a small smile.

"Thanks, Neo." I couldn’t speak louder than a whisper, feeling emotional as I took in the hint of a smile that graced his lips before he slipped his shades back on.

He nodded his head and turned around.

"Felt like checking on you while I did my rounds," he revealed, leaving me surprised once again because I had no clue they were doing security rounds while I worked.

I was about to ask but he followed up with, "Dimitris didn't want us telling you. He knows you already deal with enough monitoring from Onyx and Viktor, but with the whole bomb incident, it's better to be safe than sorry."

He began to walk away but paused as he reached the door.

"Hey, William?"

"Ya, Neo?"

He paused as if he were thinking through his words.

"When you're sad, all the color around you fades away until I can’t see you anymore."

His words left me speechless as he turned around just slightly, enough for me to somehow see his gaze underneath those black shades of his.

A gaze of uncertainty with a touch of sadness.
