"Viktor knows how to handle her," Onyx reasoned. "She'll wake up in a bit, probably, but she'll react negatively if she doesn't smell a scent she's used to, like mine or Viktor’s."

"You mean she'll go all possessed ninja fighter on us like in the forest?" I elaborated.

"Precisely," Onyx replied and headed to the other room. We followed his lead until the door was closed. Onyx was already at the wine tray, pouring a heavy whiskey and opening the mini silver fridge to drop two ice cubes in it.

The drink didn't even last five seconds in the glass cup before he downed it and poured another.

"I always had the impression you don’t drink," Dimitris brought up.

"Only two things can make me drink. Willow, and William, when he's being a straight-up jackass."

"Double problems from one person," I concluded with a tired smirk. Who would have thought the tension from what happened would make me feel so exhausted? Onyx offered each of us a drink and we all paused when Dimitris actually accepted his glass.

He sipped just a little bit before his eyes lifted to look at our shocked expressions, to which he rolled his eyes. "I won't go on a murdering spree, alright?" he suggested.

"You go on murdering sprees when you drink?" Onyx asked as he sat in the chair that was to our left. I was sitting next to Jayce while Dimitris and Neo were sitting on the couch opposite us.

"Sometimes," Dimitris stated as if it weren’t a big deal. I was unable to stop myself from laughing while Jayce shook his head. Neo decided to enlighten Onyx with one of the hard truths.

"Last time Dimitris drank, he thought he was a super wolf and killed one hundred and eighty wolves in a solid night."

Onyx paused on his drink to actual gawk at us, his gaze slowly turning to the culprit, who slowly sipped more of the harsh alcohol.

"Just so you know, it was all justifiable," he muttered.

"Except for that douche," I commented. "Did he really deserve to die?"

"If you talk big, be ready to fight big," Dimitris calmly stated, but it carried darkness to it. "No one said it was wrong to take a life when they flaunted about taking mine. An eye for an eye."

"I won't argue with that," Onyx replied.

We were all quiet as we took a moment to simply enjoy our drinks. I needed the peaceful break, acknowledging that today's surprise call was far too close for comfort.

Someone is going to die tonight. A few if Dimitris is up for it.

"Once upon a time, Willow tried to kill herself."

The start of the abrupt tale grabbed all four of our attention. Our eyes navigated to Onyx, who was rotating his half-empty glass in a slow circle. The two cubes that were almost melted clinked against the firm yet fragile surface.

I could already feel the tension this topic would bring, and for a brief second, I side-eyed over to Dimitris to already see those walls of stone take over his expression as his emotions bled away.

Neo and Jayce must have had the same thought as I, but we quickly returned our gazes to Onyx. I was pretty sure Onyx caught it, but he kept trailing the movement of his drink, his gaze rather far away as he seemed to watch the past unfold before his eye.

"It was a winter night. Cold as fuck. Storming like a bitch. It had been a harsh day for everyone, but I knew without a doubt that Willow had it the hardest. Someone powerful unexpectedly arrived at the Pack House, specifically to see Roberto, but Willow and I were receiving a cruel lecture from the bastard, and he didn't realize we had company."

Onyx frowned then and seemed to struggle before the words came out.

"When he arrived at the scene and merely took a look at us, all he could do was mock us. Mock how useless we were and talk about how he wondered why Roberto bothered trying. We were adults who missed the call of the moon. Weaklings to our own kind because we couldn't be like everyone else. When he specifically looked at me, he told Roberto I had a slight chance of being something worthy of anyone's attention, but it was a longshot and he should stop wasting time and just kill me," he explained. "Then he looked at Willow...and I never can forget the downright disgust in his eyes. She wasn't just an anomaly to this man. She was a waste of space. A being that didn't deserve a single breath. He didn't even bother to hold back his insults. He went on and on, and that's when the beating started. I tried to fight back, but back then, I wasn't as strong. I was a wounded soldier after months of crippling torture that made me question my own sanity and purpose in this world."

His expression flooded with anger as he held the glass firmly.

"Willow had endured that and more. The constant reminder of her shortcomings, things she had no control over. Why was it her fault that Mother Moon decided to make her a woman? That she was born into a pack with a father who solely wanted a boy but couldn't afford to kill the child that had his blood? That night, it was as if everything were truly crumbling down because of this visitor who knew nothing about our upbringing. The suffering we endured, the torture, the feeling of being an outcast that tested our worth. He knew absolutely nothing and judged us just on one look."

I knew those feelings all too well. The looks of judgment that formed on adult's faces as they took a single look at you and assumed they knew your worth in the world. They’d already created an opinion of you. One that was used against you during every interaction with them until you were able to escape their very wrath.

Until you can gain your own wings to fly, you're stuck with the torture of being unworthy of anyone's attention, love, and devotion in a dark world where money talks, and you have no choice but to listen and obey all that's written for you to achieve.

"Roberto didn't stop it until he tried to shoot Willow." He paused as if he were trying to hold back a storm of rage that threatened to consume him as his eyes bled silver for a second before inching back a few notches as the black shade fought to take back control in those spheres of displeasure.
