Page 156 of Wolf Awakened

Onyx's wordsrepeated themselves in my mind again, and I frowned at their arrival as I gave up on trying to relax in this fucking shower. Turning the tap off, I didn't bother drying off as I walked out of the shower, into my room, and moved to the balcony.

With a blink I was on all fours, my bones cracking into place as I leapt to the ledge of the balcony and jumped down to the ground and headed through the garden to the large forest behind our rented land.

The security didn't react because they knew my scent, but the sound of them readying their guns amused me.

At least they'll be ready for when Willow has to stay here.

I let my wolf take over a bit, needing the moment of tranquil silence within the dark part of my mind to refocus. I wasn't sure if I was going to sleep now that the sun was rising. Even if it was Saturday, the news would be filled with allegations and wondering if William De Luca survived the crash.

Our allies and enemies would be watching -waiting -to see what we'd do, but I already knew what the plan would be. What bothered me was the choice of whether to act now or to let them believe we weren't bothered by their swift act of violence.

The De Lucas had a ton of enemies, and they were surely watching to see if the only heir of Roberto was still alive and kicking. We'd have to see if Willow was up for it bright and early on Monday morning, though knowing her dislike of the first day of the week, it seemed as though Tuesday was going to be the day of her return as William.

A day of suspense wouldn't hurt.

"A night of revenge wouldn't hurt either."

I tuned back into the present, noticing my wolf had arrived at our usual place. I wanted to remind him that we were most likely choosing the lay low option, but I caught onto Neo's scent.

We turned back to see him approaching. His white fur had hints of black, and his vibrant red eyes almost carried a glow to them in the semi-lit forest that was beginning to be flooded with the first rays of sunlight.

When he arrived, he shifted without hesitation - the movement so graceful it was like his body itself was a work of art. I decided to do the same. My wolf fell back and allowed me to return to my naked self.

My hair was still dripping wet from the shower, and as Neo arrived with a black blindfold around his face, a towel materialized in his grasp and he tossed it to me.

I caught it at the last second, muttering thanks before I attempted to dry my hair. He doesn't say anything, his focus on the sunrise that made the sky look beyond beautiful. I wondered how he saw it through his black vision. If the energies of Mother Nature bled through the darkness like how our magic lit up his dark world.

"Are you going to follow what Onyx stated?" He got to the point - typical of him - as he lowered to sit on a smooth rock. No one would witness our naked bodies, not like it bothered either of us. I walked over to the second rock positioned next to him, lowering and resting a leg on the other.

"His loyalty is important," I mumbled.

"Meaning you want to keep to it because of Willow," he translated as if I hadn't spoken in English.

"It has nothing to do with Willow," I said in Japanese, and he smirked and replied, "Stop lying to yourself and admit everything has been about Willow since the day you decided we were going to triumph over NYC."

Smart fucker.

"And I know you just called me a smart fucker in your mind," he added in pure amusement, which made me roll my eyes.

"Why are you here, Neo?" I asked.

"After she settles in the house, we should let her come with us for a run," he announced. "The full moon is almost here."

"You believe it may help her shift?" I offered.

"Maybe," he replied. "This year's full moon lingers for four days and is a pink moon. You know how rare those are. Maybe it could trigger something."

"Why was her hair white?" I muttered the question that was absolutely random, and yet I couldn't defer the question for later.

"When an individual has gone through so much stress in a short period of time, especially mentally, it triggers their hair to become white," he revealed. "It's different for witches. White and silver hair usually means you're powerful as fuck. In Willow's case, it could be a mixture of both. Her magic had saved her when she almost crashed in the ice way back then, and the surge of magic could have cause her strands to become like that and now she needs those boost injections to ignite the pink in them."

"Does she realize what a threat she could be?" I whispered to myself.

"If she did, she'd walk with confidence and not look at us with longing."

"Longing?" I questioned and turned my head to him as he lifted his legs so his feet rested on the stone he was sitting on while he rested his arms on his knees.

"She craves to be like us. It's obvious, even though she fights to hide it. Every little glimpse of our presence reminds her of what she's missing. What she's unable to simply unlock like all those around us. It's not jealousy, but it's a pained emotion that crosses the lines of her expression and is quickly hidden away so the rest of the world can’t see how much she craves to be a wolf. We may not be capable of awakening her...simply because we're fucked up and not supportive enough to do so, but maybe if we allowed her to run with us, even as a human, it could do something to help her feel amongst us."
