"We'll have to look into it," he suggested.

"I'm due for a checkup soon from Aurelia anyway," I agreed but frowned when I noticed the chandelier shaking slightly. "Hmm?"

"What?"

I lowered my gaze to the desk, noticing that everything was trembling ever so slightly.

"Earthquake?" I suggested as Viktor frowned and headed to the doors as they opened and the guards looked at us. "Sir, we think there's an earthquake happening!"

Viktor was ready to answer, but he suddenly turned around and his eyes grew wide.

"WILLIAM!"

My instincts kicked in before he finished stating my name, my chair spinning around to see the five suited men who I had initially perceived to be window cleaners now pointing guns in my direction.

There wasn’t a second to spare as they began to fire the bullets, the first set making indents in the glass which began to crack and spread before the glass shattered entirely.

When the first set of bullets headed towards me, I was sitting calmly in my chair, my heart slowing down like the world around me, and that hidden force seemed to take over in a blink of an eye.

The moment I moved, I felt as light as a feather as guns materialized into my grasp and I began shooting and moving with swiftness. I couldn’t focus in one direction, everything blurring together, and yet my bullets were hitting one culprit after another.

More men in black emerged from some zip lines, but I felt a presence behind me that made me take a step back so I could feel the firm press of Viktor's back. He was shooting people coming from the office doors as he instructed the guards to get back up and shut the place down.

The building was still trembling, alarms going off all around us, but I was still shooting every being that came through the shattered windows, my magic thrumming at this moment as I let it loose with each bullet that escaped the barrel, making direct hits into my opponents.

The last man on the zip line didn't even make it into my office before I was shooting him with multiple bullets that sent his body off the zip line and down towards his end. The sound of two guns running out of bullets was enough for me to motion to spin ourselves around before I was shooting at what appeared to be the three remaining intruders.

The room was left with bodies and shattered glass as the shaking ceased. Viktor and I were huffing like crazy, my body shaking like his as we continued to press our backs together like it was our only support.

Racing footsteps revealed Roberto skidding to a stop, his arm lifting up with a gun in his grasp as he shot three times, and we caught the spluttering grunt and thump to the ground.

He walked into my office, stopping after a few short steps and seeing the damage we'd already caused.

"Fucking nipshits," he cursed. "Trying to take down my empire, my legacy, everything. We're the De Lucas! We won't dare fall!" he snarled in rage, but my eyes suddenly lifted to see the first chandelier in my office snap off from the ceiling.

My eyes widened before I lowered my gaze to him as he lifted up to see the approaching chandelier that would surely kill him.

"BOSS!" two guards screamed as Viktor pushed away from my back, spun, and jolted forward to try to push him out of the way, but I could tell that either they'd both get trapped beneath the massive piece, or Viktor wouldn't make it on time before Roberto was crushed.

My guns disappeared as I lifted both my hands up and focused solely on the falling piece, pushing as much magic through my fingers as I screamed words that spilled out like a mixture of Italian and Spanish.

They were words that I'd only heard Aurelia use, and yet they came out so effortlessly as I envisioned the chandelier slowing to a dramatic stop. With a final mental push, the very item stalled right above Roberto's head, and Victor jumped and pushed him back. The two of them fell and slid right to the open doors where the two surviving guards were scrambling to help them out.

Viktor was up and aiding Roberto with the other guards, but those golden eyes were looking straight at me as my arms shook uncontrollably and I pulled back on the magic funnel, making the chandelier crash into the ground.

Glass flew everywhere, and I closed my eyes and covered my face with my arms. My body was aching and weak, enough that the spell to keep myself in my male form came undone.

Sharp pieces of glass cut through my skin, but the pain was miniscule as I opened my eyes to see the damage. We were all still, taking in the fact that Roberto would have been squished if it wasn't for me. I was unsure what power possessed me, but it left my tingling body.

Retreating to a place of darkness that I’d never seemed to notice within my mind.

The notion of the retreating power left me feeling queasy, but I fought to remain on my unsteady feet as I fought for breath. Everything was quiet, but the sudden round of bullets coming from the hall triggered the two guards to be up and standing protectively before Viktor and Roberto as they began shooting back.

I was ready to help, but I couldn’t seem to move, and I looked down for a few seconds before I had the sudden urge to look up. The snapping sound triggered at that moment, and there came the second chandelier that was heading my way, leaving me in complete shock as I was left with zero options for defense.

I couldn’t move, my magic was almost depleted, and I was now realizing this was the exact trap they’d wished for me to fall into. Whoever did this wasn't after Roberto.

They're clearly after me.
