"Yes!" she cheers and jumps up and down. "In...depedent!"

"Good work on your words," I praise and swing her hand. "Let's go! I'm hungry."

"Me too!"

A branch broke, catching my attention as I blinked out of the memory.

I froze at the sight of the blazing wolf, realizing it was at the edge of the clearing I was in. One look confirmed that she was the wolf that saved me from the fall from my office.

Ruby Phoenix...my half sister.

She slowly bowed her head as if she understood my realization, and suddenly howled into the cool air and turned around.

"Wait," I whispered, and she stopped and turned her head enough to look at me - those golden eyes glowing vibrantly while they acknowledged my command.

"You brought me here?" I didn’t know why it made sense, but that was the only thing I could think of that would make sense if I wasn't on the shore of the creek I'd fallen into.

She nodded ever so slightly, and I understood why she was here.

The final test for Mother Moon.

"Thank you," I whispered as I gave her the best smile I could muster in my weakened state. "When this is over...when I survive and rise up on my own, I'll find you....sister."

The last word in my sentence made her happy. She howled even louder into the cool night and ran into the forest without a second glance behind her. I didn’t move until she was officially gone, her energy of fire and heat fading away into the dark night, leaving me alone in this forest.

Rising up to my shaky feet, I looked up to the Pink Moon, and everything suddenly made sense.

"I wasn't a late bloomer," I whispered. "All I've been waiting for is the Pink Moon. I needed to be out here, ready to blossom into the person I'm meant to be."

It made so much sense now, and yet I couldn’t believe I’d never found this information out. That there were royal packs. That royal wolves had to wait for a specific moon to trigger their awakening.

Does that mean Onyx isn't a late bloomer, either? Is Onyx royalty? Would that even make sense? He's probably searching for me now. I need to get to him and the others. Yes. We have to figure this out together.

No more mind games and self-sabotage.

I was shoved away from the wolf community for a reason. To stop me from finding the truth. This went beyond Roberto. Someone greater didn't want me to find out who I was.

Why? What's the cost of me finding out the truth?

"I knew Roberto wouldn't be able to keep to his end of the bargain."

Spinning around, I jumped back in time to avoid the strike of a fist. Putting some distance between us, I immediately spread my legs out into a defensive stance as I tried to call for my magic but struggled immensely.

"You won't be able to use that here in the Alpha forest, human," he taunted, and the familiarity of his voice made me question his shadowed figured.

"G-Garfield?"

He smiled as he walked out of the shadows. His angry expression would cut through anyone's heart -or cock -if it was a blade.

"What a shame it was to arrive at the place that should have been your final resting place, only to find you gone, the place up in flames, and my brother's burning corpse that was missing a penis."

I didn’t even feel ashamed as I shrugged and looked into his eyes.

"He deserved it," I said with confidence. "He was never good at playing dead. I wonder if you'll do better?"

The man narrowed his eyes at me before he snarled, "You won't make it out of this place alive. Your life ends here, and by the time any of those rich royal bastards get here, it'll be far too late."

He moved in a blurred movement until I couldn’t see him anywhere around me, which left me to close my eyes and heighten my senses in an effort to locate him. His energy was erratic, swirling everywhere, which made me spin around to try and keep a trail on his movements, and his laughter taunted me mercilessly.
