"No."

"Want me fucking someone else that night?"

That made me scowl to the point that the poor Starbucks cup was beginning to dent within itself until it was a smashed-up ball of recyclable trash.

"That means it's a date," he concluded with a smirk as he rose up and reached for the ball of trash. I put my hand on it, as if that would stop him. His hand covered mine as he leaned further in until our lips brushed, which made my cock twitch.

"I need you there, William."

The way he said it told me one thing:it was at the Pack House.

"Fine," I grumbled and looked away from his intense gaze. "I'll clear my schedule."

"I appreciate it," his husky voice teased me before he leaned in even further until his lips were next to my ear. "Relax. No one is going to hurt you today."

The reminder made me close my eyes, the fucked-up memories we'd experienced together being the mere icing on the cake of past shit that was triggered by the stupidest things.

Mirrors being one of them.

"I'm leaving." His teeth very gently tugged on my ear before he laid a gentle kiss on my neck. I had to cover my poor neck with concealing foundation to ensure those damn hickeys were hidden in this form.

By the time I opened my eyes, he was gone, and a soft breeze came from the window behind me.

"I swear to Mother Moon," I huffed and got up to close the damn window. "How he fits through this baffles my intelligence."

My comment only hid the warmth that man left behind, and I tried to ignore what my cock wanted.

He ain't good for your heart. Not as William. Not as Willow. He just ain't good.

The speaker on my desk drew my attention, leaving me to return to my desk, smooth out my hair, ensure my zipper is good, and realize Onyx actually took the Starbucks trash on his way out.

Clean bastard.

With one deep inhale, I let it out and pressed the intercom.

"William De Luca speaking."

It's time to start work.

Daddy Issues And Pack Shit

My hand is scribbling a final set of notes regarding wolf shifter complications and blockages when my phone pings with a notification.

CRUSH ASSHOLE:

I'm going to be tardy. Be there on the dot.

I couldn't help but sigh, knowing Viktor was never tardy on purpose. Closing the large, ancient books I borrowed from Aurelia from the Pack House, I pulled out the coded finger-scan drawer at the bottom of my desk and placed them carefully inside, locking it up before saving my notes on the tablet and encrypting it for extra security.

No way did I want my dad figuring out what I was researching, especially when it was regarding how to truly determine if I was plagued to be a human forever or if I had the chance of becoming a wolf like all those around me.

I bet if he knew he'd laugh his head off at my desperation. I yearned to be a part of the community that surely would have banished me or locked me up in that dungeon for all eternity if not for the privileges that came with my surname and perseverance.

I could just imagine the shocked faces of the Alphas and Betas that surely expected to be removing my remains from the pits of that dungeon, only to see me barely conscious and ready to lose my shit on anyone who dared to push me to the brink of insanity.

I proved my worth right there and then, but surely it wasn't enough.

Until I could shift onto all fours and howl at the moon like all of them, I'd never be an acceptable choice.
