Page 57 of Wolf Awakened

We held a good chunk of this vast mountain space, but Papa Dearest was a tad too late in trying to claim the top parts, which were purchased by some man from abroad who invested in building luxury homes on good chunks of land.

That led to some of the wealthiest people investing in the lands, as long as they met the wolf shifter requirements.

It was also where some of the vile dungeons for torture were hidden in the shadows of the forest. Exactly why Onyx wanted me around.

Somehow we'd become each other's safety nets against the triggers we tried hard to ignore and keep hidden from everyone else. Only sometimes, such triggers were impossible to face alone.

That's why we have each other's backs when it comes to visiting places so close to pulling us back into the past.

I was a little glad we weren't heading to the actual Pack House. I still didn't know why I gave it that nickname all those years ago, especially when there was no way a simple house could fit ten thousand wolf shifters, not to mention the alliance packs that came and went for both business and pleasure.

Papa Dearest’s house alone was a big-ass mansion created for show, for foreigners and those who strictly traveled here for business. The gorgeous, modern, white house was filled with the latest technology and designer trends, as though it were a showroom of his extraordinary wealth.

His private home was like a shed in comparison to the grand property, but it led to the underground tunnels and dungeons throughout the massive property where he got to enjoy the dark side of life.

A ten-minute drive from the main house was practically a neighborhood full of various homes. Most of the wolves in his pack had enough to live a rather luxurious lifestyle. The surprising thing about my father is that if you had absolute loyalty to him, he made sure you'd never starve and always have a wonderful roof over your head.

It was his way to ensure his pack members would feel in great 'debt' to him, and when it came down to them protecting or doing deeds for my father, they were more willing to do so. All of that didn't mean he couldn't snatch everything away from them with a snap of his fingers. He was the puppet master of all those in his pack, and they all knew and agreed to those terms and conditions.

Even if it could mean death for them and their whole bloodline.

We rarely had pack meetings but there was a stadium for that which was integrated with nature to give us a more natural environment to discuss important enough topics that would need the entire pack’s and allegiant packs’ devotion.

There was always some type of drama going on, but no one dared bother Father about it.

Last time they did, they both ended up dead.

Other than a pack outside of our own threatening to take down the Pack House, any other concerns were a waste of Father's time. I guess I didn't blame him for that one because people got into fights for the stupidest reasons.

Like the two wolves he killed. They were women fighting over one of the Betas. Only later did we find out one of them was pregnant. Sucks.

This party happening may piss him off, especially since I'd apparently met one of the pack members I wasn't supposed to be around.

Oops.

My photo with Dimitris Moore was trending everywhere, to the point people were begging for some sort of photoshoot with us. I guess it wasn't common to have two good-looking men wearing Louis Vuitton in public, or maybe it was because we seemed to be of similar high class.

Fixing my black strapless dress, I worked on sliding into my black heels, beginning to tie the pink bling strings that would wrap all the way up my leg and be tied at my upper thighs.

At parties like these, I could be Will or Willow, but anything after hours was an automatic freedom card to be myself.

Finally, I get to drink and dance.

"Is Papa Dearest still mad about the whole 'I accidentally met with the guy I wasn't supposed to' issue?" I inquired as Viktor turned the car onto the private road. We already passed the three security checks so now it was just heading to the designated party house.

"He killed at least five people yesterday so I guess he's still mad," Viktor answered. "You really have shitty luck."

"How was I supposed to know he interfered with Dad getting a one-billion-dollar deal?"

"Not interfered with," Viktor corrected. "He won over that deal. Practically stole it right before Roberto's eyes. I'm surprised he was able to stay so calm and collected during the meeting.”

"He didn't act like he lost a billion dollars when I kicked his guards' asses and told him to basically fuck off," I reasoned as I lifted a mirror from my purse to make sure my long pink strands were styled neatly.

"That happened after you left. They didn't want Dimitris and Roberto in the same room for the conclusion. Smart move, or I believe Roberto would have lost his shit and killed him right there. That and the fact that he returned to his office and found out you were trending with the same man who just won the deal made him a little trigger friendly."

"Oops." I feigned concern. "My bad."

"You have no remorse in the tone of your voice."
