Her words actually ignited a smile so big I was almost certain I was experiencing love at first sight. I didn't let the three individuals that crowded behind me ruin this moment as I watched her walk away - those commanding hips moving from side to side as she walked with confidence.

I loved a woman who knew her worth. Licking my lips, I turned around to face the three men in black and feigned innocence.

"What's up, boys? We have something to discuss?" I purposely didn't want to make a scene. A conversation that started up like this always made people assume we were acquaintances and I wasn't about to get my ass kicked.

As if I'd let these weaklings ruin my blessed night.

They exchanged a look before their leader nodded his head. "Ya. Why don't we talk about it out back?"

"Sure," I casually replied and flicked the few wet strands that slipped out of my ponytail when I was lost in the music. "I'm dying for air after all that dancing."

I could see their anger and stiffness, which only made me chuckle as I led the way. The three of them followed like puppets, no doubt about to fall into my own lingering trap.

We were outside in no time and I immediately noticed how "empty" the area was. Normally at clubs, the back was filled with people chatting, making out, or puking.

No matter if they were wolf shifter or human.

The place being as deserted as a desert made me giddy for bloodshed as I walked further down the narrow path, the door I left from closing shut behind me. The sound of clicks only made me smile in delight before rounds of shots were aimed in my direction.

If only they knew of my reputation.

Three grunts followed shortly after, and I pulled the sword that was in my possession out of the leader, who looked completely stunned as he lowered his gaze to see the blade cloaked in blood being removed from his flesh.

He gasped as I pulled it out. Its physical body disappeared a second later - an image that always left my victims in stunned horror before they collapsed at my feet.

This man was no different as he fell to his knees and landed on the side of the ground with his other buddies, who were bleeding out.

Turning around, I made sure my outfit was in one piece before I began to walk away, but my wolf approached my protective wall - close enough to make me stop in my tracks and sniff the air.

"What shadow work do you possess to be so sneaky?" I inquired into the air, knowing damn well that the lurking individual I had sensed from the moment I arrived here was now behind me.

I lifted my hand. A loud, clinking sound echoed in my left ear while my left hand shook with intensity because of the force it was protecting me from. I turned my head just slightly, and my wolf peeked through enough that my voice dipped to a cool yet threatening tone.

"Either reveal yourself and fight like a man with balls or allow me the pleasure of ruining that arm of yours."

That was enough for the invisible shadow to appear before my eyes, the large mass of strength showing an individual I'd heard of even in Cali. He was a champion cage fighter in the male division, one that had held his streak for five years.

He was of a different pack but seemed to have extremely close ties to the De Lucas.

None of us were sure if we'd add him to the list of hits or the list of connections, but now that I’d gotten a glimpse of who he was and the scent he carried that was all over that sweet wilting flower, I now had a better idea.

My wolf retreated enough to give me control and I began to chuckle as I whispered, "I know for a fact that you ain't with these weaklings."

"I'm not," he said with an emotionless tone.

"Good," I replied. "I won't need to kill you tonight."

That clearly ticked him off, but I carried on, "I'm not here to make enemies, especially since we've only been here for a few days. I know why you're willing to cut me up, but I was curious to see if you were as protective as the rumors say you are."

When he didn't answer I added, "Or possessive. It's hard to tell the difference when your woman is not a wolf and yet carries far too many traits to be a mere human."

"Don't go near her again," he snarled.

"You and I both know that's going to be a tricky task to follow," I reasoned and turned around to face him fully. I wasn’t worried about him striking me again.

We both know that I'm not alone anymore.

"Why are you after Roberto?" He got right to the point. That was the way I liked my conversations.
