"When one commits one too many sins, the Grim Reaper decides to pay a visit to remind them of when they once were at the way bottom of the food chain," I reasoned as if I were some sort of pope. "Roberto pushed too many buttons, so it's our turn to either interfere or watch his entire empire crumble."

"You're aiding him?"

"That's a tricky word to use. Definitely not aiding that selfish bastard that thinks he's invincible," I reasoned with a harsh voice. "Originally, we were going to come and kill him like he deserves for all he's done, but then we met a certain heir with pink hair and a dual personality."

My dual personality comment made his eyes narrow at me, and I lifted my hands up in innocence. "You have to snoop around to know exactly what you're dealing with. Don't you agree?"

I wasn't expecting him to answer, so I carried on.

"You're not my enemy," I said point-blank. "However, I won't hesitate to make you one if you use that voodoo shit on me again."

The words were as hard as stone as my wolf made sure his presence was known.

Don't dare use that dark fae shit on my immaculate being.

"You use fae magic," he grumbled.

"As do you." I smirked when he frowned deeply. "Don't bother asking me why. I'm not interested in your story as I'm sure you're not interested in mine."

Sliding my hands in my pockets, I let out a long sigh.

"If it gives you some peace of mind, we're not here for Roberto's child. We're here for him only," I assured him. "However, if using his child presents the perfect opportunity to bring him down, we'll use that tactic to destroy him. I'm being truthful now seeing as I believe you deserve to know that much."

"If you touch her wrong or dare risk her life, you and your crew are through," he threatened.

"Ya, ya," I replied. "Don't worry. We won't harm your delicate flower. For now, at least. If we change our minds, I'll personally give you a heads up." I smirked and turned around. "You should figure out what side you're on soon."

I walked a few steps before adding, "A war is coming for your boss, and if you're not careful, you'll lose that wilting flower before she can awaken the true blooming flower inside her."

With those words, his company faded into emptiness, leaving me to look over my shoulder and see he was indeed gone.

Scary mother fucker. No wonder why he's a champion for so long but how did he harvest fae magic with a darkness trait?

"Experimentation was one of Roberto's hobbies, was it not?"

That was one of the sick things Dimitris had found out thus far. But to what extent had he gone to make someone of that guy's caliber handle the torturous journey of harvesting fae roots in his body?

"Are we done?"

I turned my head to see Neo chilling against the wall. He was wearing black glasses, which was clearly not needed as it was fully dark outside.

"You know I didn't need your aid," I pointed out.

"Ya, but that man wouldn't let you off scot free after you danced with his woman for five songs straight."

"You were watching?" I asked but regretted the single word because I knew how wrong of a word it was. Neo shrugged it off, sensing my nervousness as he answered, "Her scent is strong as hell. Pleasant. Addicting. Draws you in with a glimpse of life. His scent, on the other hand, screams death. Life and death mixed is a screaming trap."

He moved from the wall and began to walk away. "One my stupid, innocent brother would fall for."

"C'mon," I whined. "Don't insult me. It was a fun gamble, don't you think?"

He was already gone before I could pry an answer from him, which left me sighing before I looked to the sky. The lingering full moon energy was still strong and replenishing us with her soft glow.

My phone rang, and I read the text from Jayce telling me to hurry my ass up because they were itching for a run. This would be our first run through NYC. It was going to be so much fun that I almost hopped in place at the sheer idea.

I was about to head out, but my entire body was struck with goosebumps that froze me right in place before I spun around, fighting the urge to shift and defend myself as a single shadow headed my way.

An assassin?
