The man screamed suddenly, his black knife inches from my face as his body convulsed and he was on his knees screaming for mercy. I watched as he began to cough up blood, the metallic liquid pouring out of his nostrils and eyes.

"Neo." My voice was thick with warning. "Enough already."

With a hmph from behind me, the assassin in all black stilled and froze as blood continued to drip from all his openings, his ears the next culprit as his blood flowed from his brains.

I turned around to see Neo calmly standing there, his shades hiding the fury that probably shone through his void eyes.

"You're lucky that shit doesn't work on your mate or I swear, Mother Moon would never partner you with anyone," I reasoned.

"You're welcome," he calmly replied. "Don't be stupid next time. Even that hulk noticed him."

"And he couldn't help a bro out?" I whined.

"You always forget the sins you commit that get you on the radar," Neo acknowledged.

He has a point.

"Hurry up. I wanna run." Neo walked away once more, as though he hadn't almost killed that man without lifting a finger.

I thought the dark wolf, or whatever he is, was scary. Neo just wants to remind me that he's better. Show off.

With a sigh and one last glance at the bodies, I took a mental image of all of them, knowing we'd need it to see what pack they were from and if they were both sent by Roberto.

Or someone else.

Walking once more, I took a long inhale as I wished for that sweet aroma to grace my nostrils one more time.

"You already have my scent. Have fun tonight, and hope to bump into you again if you survive."

My lips curled at the memory as I exhaled and looked up to the sky.

I'll find you, Sweet Flower. Let the hunt for your heart begin.

~ONYX~

Creeping through the shadows, the familiarity of the room eased my occupied mind. I pushed all that troubled, poked, and threatened my sanity to its corner in my head, allowing my sense of calm to return to its rightful place.

The sliding glass doors that separated the bedroom from the grand living room were only half closed - on purpose no doubt.

An invitation.

Walking through the opened gates of luxury, I took in the room that was illuminated by the soft glow of the lingering moon. The view of Mother Nature only accented the divine beauty lying upon the black sheets. It made the slightly tanned skin of the woman who lay there even more flawless while her pink strands messily laid upon the pillow she was curled up against.

I envied the black pillow that was nothing but a replacement. It proved she missed my company, the feel of my body wrapped around her small frame, sheltering her from the monsters of the night that begged for a single moment to take up that hidden bounty on her pretty head that no one dared to pick up anymore.

Anyone who tries winds up dead.

My foot work was silent as I prowled through the room until I was at the edge of the bed. I watched as her chest rose up and down, those loving lips slightly parted as the soft sounds of her tiny snores actually tugged at the chest of happiness I fought hard to keep locked.

Only she was the key to that treasure chest. The key to my heart...soul...life in all avenues.

I craved to touch her, which I did, my hand moving to brush along her cheek before moving down her neck and shoulder. Her naked body was only half covered, showing me glimpses of her breasts and long legs.

I noticed the hints of bruising on her legs and fists, which told me she went to the ring today. Unexpected of her, but from what I heard and saw, I'm sure she needed to get some of that tension out of her body in a form other than sex.

The idea of another man igniting that raging flame within her pissed me off like no other, but then I had a glimmer of respect for this individual who believed he was worthy enough to silently challenge me.

He was fast with tricks of his own, unexpected fae magic that a wolf like him shouldn't possess.
