Unless unwillingly.

That left my mind buzzing with questions as to what his livelihood was before coming here. What did he do in California to land him with such hidden magic?

What did he sacrifice to survive the possible experimentations that blessed him with the magic of another supernatural race?

That and the other companion hiding in the shadows who revealed himself -and the hint of power he possessed.

I wouldn't admit it, but whatever skill he used to make that assassin bleed to death was something Roberto better be wary of. I was sure the report had already been delivered to him, and with my added warning, he surely wouldn't be sleeping tonight.

I'd only got a glimpse of three of the four pack members, and I knew without a doubt that they were far more dangerous than I’d been told.

They were truly forbidden creatures and I could only ponder what secrets they carried.

Returning my attention to Willow, I watched as she squeezed her peaceful expression, a sign that a nightmare was trying to creep into her blissful dreams.

I stroked my hand along her lip until I couldn't fight the urge to kiss her. It wasn't rough or desperate. A simple kiss of love that was enough to make her stir before her eyes opened ever so slightly.

My wolf inched out a bit from his spot as I caught onto a glimmer of gold in her teal ocean eyes. The glimmer was prominent enough for me to know it wasn't an illusion, and yet with a lazy blink, it was gone and her usual tea turquoise eyes had returned for display as her eyes began to close once more.

Did you see that?

"I most certainly did."My wolf was just as puzzled as I, but we didn't react as Willow opened her eyes halfway to look up at us.

Her silence was expected, her mind probably pondering if we were real or not. She inspected me from my eyes to my hair, chin, neck, and chest, viewing my various tattoos before she reached for my hand and tugged it gently.

She didn't need to say any words. I knew what she wanted, and though she deserved every punishment under the sun after dancing with another man, I couldn't help but give her this moment of love.

Moving the pillow in her grasp, I replaced it by sliding onto the bed and pulling her into my arms. She hugged me like I was the biggest teddy bear she'd ever possessed, all while she snuggled tightly and mumbled something that made no sense.

I expected her to fall asleep, but I heard her tender word.

"Sorry." The single word of an apology meant more to me than she'd ever realize. Being acknowledged when I knew she didn't have to brought me comfort.

I knew from day one when I met her eyes within the darkness of those cells that the day would come when I wouldn't be able to control her. That she'd slip from my grasp and move onto someone who could bring her the happiness her heart craved.

That we’d go our separate ways.

Yet, she was apologizing because she knew that what happened pissed me off, and yet it proved how strong she was. Acknowledging what hurt another person and lowering your own morals and traits to confront the problem with a simple apology as she had just done was enough for me to let go of the whole thing.

She didn't need to say the single word, and I was sure she would have survived the punishment I'd wished to give her in the back of my mind, but that plan had evaporated, and all I wanted to do was hold her.

Worship her in my mind as we rejuvenate for the days ahead.

"I know you love me, Willow," I whispered into her ear as she hugged me a little tighter.

She was asleep again in seconds, and I didn't bother waking her up. She deserved to sleep, and I wouldn't be the one to stop her this time.

Her aroma teased me and calmed me further as I allowed my eyes to close and my mind to drift.

That pack of Forbidden wolves was on Roberto's trail. It was only a matter of time before they unlocked the enemies that have hid behind his richness and fame for ages, desperately waiting for his downfall to reveal their own sets of power and wealth.

I'd have to decide what side I'd be on when push came to shove, but I knew one thing wouldn't change.

I'd remain on Willow's side. No matter which side of the spectrum of power she decided to lie upon.

With that mental vow, I allowed my mind to drift while feeling assured that tonight, the nightmares would remain at bay, for my shining light was within my arms.

My light, key, and forbidden savior.
