“Which is why Father enjoys keeping me a secret and letting me be a fucking pawn to a cynical bitch who treats me like a fucking dog instead of Lucifer Jr.,” he declared. “Sad, isn’t it?”

“Without suffering, there’s no motivation to get stronger,” I noted though I did feel an ounce of sympathy for him. Not enough to make me want to change the lingering thought of spilling his blood across these very floors, but the nagging urge was less palpable.

“You’re right,” he agreed and planted his scythe onto the floor before leaning against the pole part of the weapon, which managed to hold his weight. “Are you sure you want to go through with this?”

He’s actually feeling pity for me.

“I trust my mate won’t fear me.”

Arthur simply stared at me, and though his previous inquiry had instilled tendrils of fear and uncertainty, I knew deep within my soul that despite Willow’s physical, emotional, and mental state, she wouldn’t abandon me.

She would never forsake us.

“Then let’s waste no more time,” Arthur concluded as something flickered in his eyes that made me question what I’d just gotten into.

Acceptance…

I may have just fallen into a bigger trap than I’d realized. The scariest part of it was facing reality.

I need to accept that there’s no fucking way of turning back now.
