Tears began to swarm my vision as the man before me smiled hauntingly back at me.

"For one who has entered our lands in the past, it’s a shame you don’t grasp our elimination tactics,”he stated as I took the best breath I could manage and began to hold it.“We take great pleasure in witnessing our captive’s downfall, though the way your aura dances in hopes of surviving my wrath is intriguing.”

I glared menacingly as I gave up fighting the invisible hold. Instead, I began to center my magic, hoping this state of fight or flight would aid me in this final chance of survival.

“What are you planning now?”he asked me as if he really were curious as to what my plans were. “You won’t be alive for long. Your body is already struggling on the other side.”

I could feel the slow descent of liquid going down my nostrils while I caught onto the whiff of a metallic consistency that hit the air.

He was right. I was clearly dying on the side of reality, but I didn’t want to give up yet.

I can’t. I’m so fucking close.

We were less than thirty minutes from the runway and yet so many were trying to take me out with every chance they could get.

“Stop fighting it, you forbidden concoction. Accepting death will invite a smoother transition to the afterlife,”he proudly encouraged as his beaming smile ridiculed me just like his white eyes.“Just be at peace.”

Fuck being at peace!

The build of my magic coursed through me, getting stronger and more impatient as I forced it to remain within. I didn’t know what move I was yearning to conjure, but this wasn’t the time to think about that because every second inched me closer to my doom and I couldn’t dare go without a proper fight.

I noticed the flicker of light illuminating my body, and I could only assume the various magic incantations were blazing to life with all the magic coursing through me.

“What are you planning, forbidden hybrid? No one can escape my prison without accepting a challenge, and as of now, you can’t speak when you’re holding your breath like that,”he delightedly reminded me.“There’s only so long before you run out of oxygen, but if you wish to kill yourself by blowing yourself up with all that magical energy, feel free to do so. It would make everything easier to claim you killed yourself.”

My anger couldn’t be more palpable, and I was surprised by the sudden voice in my head.

“Everyone always wanting to call us a suicide case over ONE time,”Bria growled.“Fuck this fae douche!”

Her screaming insult followed with a thrashing force of power not only shattered through whatever levitating hold this man had on me, but it pushed me to make a pouncing attempt at taking down this man.

Like a wolf leaping at its prey with glistening sharp teeth, I managed to claw at his face as he stopped me from completely crashing into him with his hand that now physically gripped my throat in this illusioned atmosphere.

The touch made my body scream in pain as if we were deadly allergic. I snarled almost manically, not caring about the fact that I was using my last bit of air to try to do some sort of damage to my enemy.

Like a frantic wolf in a losing battle, all I could do was continue to claw at him until I was on my last bit of strength. I’d pushed all that magic outward in my clawing frenzy, and I had no clue whether it was worth it because my vision was being covered by black circles.

Bria…I…don’t think I can fight any longer.

“We did…our best.”Bria sounded completely out of breath, but she didn’t sound disappointed.

She was fucking proud we did everything we could to fight back.

“How dare you!”The fae that previously exhibited a sense of empowerment now was filled with fury at whatever damage we caused, but what more could he do?

I was on the edge of death. He can’t hurt me anymore.

His sudden scream of agony forced him to let go of my throat. My body simply dropped like a rag doll but was swiftly caught as a firm body of pulsating heat pressed against my back.

The man hissed as words of a different language were followed with a spike of magic, but I couldn’t see what was going on as I fought for breath with every bit of energy I had left.

“How dare you hurt what’s mine?!”

I didn’t expect the commanding voice of rage to belong to Viktor, but it most certainly did… just like his overwhelming aura that cloaked me like a shielding bubble.

“Master L?” the fae questioned for a mere moment, and for a split second, I swore he was frightened of the potential confrontation with the Master in question. “Tsk. Seems I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.”

“Release her from your prison,” Viktor snarled, “or I’ll come to Faerie myself and wipe out your kingdom’s entire existence.”
