“I wonder what it was,” I mumbled more to myself because I didn’t think Viktor would tell me something that seemed so intimate.

“You ready?” he asked as magic walls surrounding the interior of the elevator began to flicker in and out.

“Ready, Vikky.” I hummed to lighten to mood.

I was rewarded with an eye roll as he huffed, “Stop calling me that.”

“Never.”

He squeezed my hand, then, as he looked forward.

“His biggest regret was not being a better father.”

I frowned and side-glanced at Viktor as if I’d get more information, but I knew from his look that he was preparing himself to be the assassin bodyguard whose focus was solely on protecting me.

"He can always change that,” I whispered. "As long as he and his offspring have life, there’s always an opportunity to change that. Hopefully, he figures that out.”

“Hopefully he will,” Viktor whispered as the elevator dinged.

Time to confront the unknown.
