"Maybe you both are culprits in this matter of questionable boredom.”

The new voice held a glimmer of authority to it, enough that I briefly glanced their way to confirm the man in black and gold robes carried a devilish grin on his face.

If one’s attire could scream villain in capital letters, this was the sign that told me this man wasn’t one to be around.

From the stiffness of the other two fae members, my instincts were on point in regard to being careful in interacting with this man.

"King Lysander of the West,” he introduced as stood boldly between Harold and Tana, who had no choice but to move to accompany his arrival. "You’re Roberto’s son, hmm? The one that has gotten the mundanes riled up at the rumors of your ascension?”

“William,” I responded and lowered my glass just slightly so I could take a good look at the man. At first glance, I really didn’t like him. Whether it was his superior vibes or the fact that he was judging me with his grey eyes with gold circles around his irises, I wasn’t sure.

“Delighted to meet you in the flesh. You’re taller than I expected,” he admitted as if to acknowledge we were of the same height. “You must have gotten your height from Queen Elphaba rather than your father, Roberto. He’s rather short in comparison.”

“I’m pleased you know of my heritage,” I stated without a hint of emotion while my eyes were already drifting elsewhere.

I was sure they thought I had an attention span problem with how I was looking for something more thrilling to gaze at, but I really didn’t see the entertainment in participating in petty kingdom drama.

Are fae usually this pestering?

I had to wonder because Milo wasn’t like this at all. Maybe it was because he was essentially raised away from his homelands so he wouldn’t take for granted the privilege he was born into.

"Are we pestering you, William?” Tana inquired as if it were her question, but clearly, she’d heard my mental commentary, which seemed to irritate Bria in particular. The low growl that vibrated through the hollows of my subconscious clearly did its justice in making Tana flinch while Harold quickly cleared his throat.

“We don’t mean to be a bother. We’re simply excited for such a grand event and the honor it bestows upon you,” Harold defended. “I’m sure you’ll be attending Faerie more often due to your mother’s relationship with King Phoenix.”

"I have plenty of important endeavors I need to focus on before enjoying leisure time in Faerie,” I summed up dismissively.

This man really had to think I was a fool to give out my plans as if they weren’t desperate to either destroy them via foul play or do something to sabotage my rise in power now that I was a grand step away from claiming what was rightfully mine.

“Well, some have mentioned you’ve recently been mated to a fae,” Harold brought up. “Not Prince Milo, may I clarify. I’m aware that he’s made a public request to court your feminine side.”

Bria growled again in annoyance, but I guessed it wasn’t threatening enough to get these fae off the topic as Tana chipped in. "It’s intriguing how Prince Milo was assigned to be a royal guard and yet he has time to court. Intriguing,” she mocked and flicked her blonde strands. “I was actually offered to be one of the potential brides offered to Prince Milo, but I decided he was not worth fighting for. I’m simply not made to go through bride trials and other Olympic-style obstacles for a man.”

"I thought you weren’t gender-fluid in nature,” Harold commented.

"Well, I’m not into being with a female. Unlike our explorative race, watching two females kiss is insulting to my sexual being,” Tana complained without a hint of remorse as she purposely stared at me. “Two men aren’t very different. Your kingdom doesn’t support such, right, King Lysander?”

When my eyes locked onto him, he had nothing to say as he stared right back into my eyes, but my attention was once again tugged away as I felt goosebumps run up my arms while a sense of desire rushed through me.

For a second, I wondered if it was foreign—a plot to pull me into doing something publicly humiliating—but Bria’s low, vibrating growls were far from aggressive in nature.

They almost reminded me of a mating call of sorts.

An arm casually slid across my shoulders, pulling me into someone’s side just as I smoothly looked to my left to see who now stood next to me.

Not a second later, lips descended upon mine—the touch summoning a soothing warmth that hummed through my body and easily relaxed the tension in my muscles I hadn’t realized was present.

Their hand gripped my right shoulder firmly as they pulled back to reveal eyes of glimmering lime with hues of gold and emerald.

I couldn’t react to the sight as I noticed the way all three of these cocky fae who had been doing their best to tug at my nerve endings were now bowing before us.

Those fae who were observing immediately bowed their heads as if they didn’t want to get caught disrespecting the man at my side. It really was like I’d waltzed into another alternate dimension where I’d reversed roles, but if that were truly the case, it only confirmed who potentially stood next to me.

Aura?

“K-King Clementine!” Harold stuttered as he further bowed his head in humbleness. "I wasn’t aware you would be in attendance.”

“What an honor to meet you again, King Clementine,” Tana swiftly added in nervousness. “I-I wasn’t aware that you’d be present.
