When his forehead pressed against mine again, I felt the transfer of power that rushed into my body. My mind felt like it was expanding, widening like a web with so many connections.
It was huge and so damn powerful that the overwhelming shift could knock someone out. I fought against the urge to faint, feeling everything establish until it clicked right into place.
“Roberto…” Beta Malachite’s voice was breathless, and I took a mere peek to see the true fear and immense sadness in his glassy eyes.

I wanted this to be a dream, a shocking nightmare that I’d wake up from at this crucial moment, but I watched the life begin to fade from his gaze until he simply stared upward as his last set of tears ran down his cheeks.
