"I’ll have to express my thanks later then,” Aura concluded more to herself as her eyes returned to Willow, who was deeply asleep. Even as she rested against the white sheets of the king-sized bed, she looked horrible.

She was sickly pale with lines of stress and worry, and she looked completely drained. I was sure the alcohol wouldn’t have had a huge impact on her body, but I could only guess what would have happened if she wasn’t drunk.

The havoc she’d instill on the world that had dared to take away her Papa Dearest.

"You wish to talk about something, don’t you?” Milo brought up to Aura, who was still frowning as she stared at Willow.

“I do, but it would be a bit burdensome to do it in this form.”

“And you’re not changing back because?” I asked.

“Because I’m a douche when angry,” she replied and met my blank stare with one that actually triggered goosebumps across my skin.

It was a questionable reaction, but I didn’t want to think about that right now.

She immediately noticed, which made her sigh and add, “If you guys are fine with my prickish male self, then I’ll gladly change. I’ll have to at some point with the situation Aurelia has put us all in.”

I couldn’t help but side glance to Onyx, noticing the tension in his stance that only grew with the mention of Aurelia. Despite his appearance, Onyx’s level of loyalty toward his friends was unmatched, which was why this change of events was rather baffling.

She didn’t wait for anyone else to comment. I felt the shift of energy in the air — goosebumps forming along my arms as the tiny hairs lifted in warning.

I always underestimated how much power Fae carried so flawlessly, but being in their presence and watching Auraleia use a speck of her power to switch back to her male form was a reminder that she was most certainly the biggest threat of all.

I just hadn’t figured out if that threat would target us or our number one enemy.

With just a blink, Queen Auraleia was now King Amos, and his warning was very valid for the angry lines on his face were matched with that furious dancing aura that swarmed the room instantly.

All of us tensed up, and my eyes drifted to Onyx, Milo, and then Beta Malachite as they straightened their stances. I pushed off the wall and stood straight, giving King Amos my full attention while he briefly stared at Willow, who was still fast asleep.

He opened his mouth to speak but seemed to pause as a deep frown formed upon his smooth lips.

“Enter.”

We all looked to the door, noticing how it immediately opened to reveal a woman cloaked in gold. The attire reminded me of a something one would wear when they were a part of a cult, only the embellished design of teal gave off a sophisticated look of royalty.

The woman had her head bowed and only further leaned forward when she arrived before Amos, who didn’t hide his anger.

“This best be an emergency,”Amos snarled, his voice far deadlier than before.

In fact, he’d spoken to us like we were loyal companions for years versus the tone of his voice now matched with his furious aura and expression.

“I apologize, King Amos, but this is indeed an emergency. An official announcement has been made from Faerie. A decision involving the witch.”

“My sister,”Amos corrected her, as if it was a common occurrence.“What?”

The woman further bowed and placed her hands together as if in prayer.

I was waiting for something magical to happen, but instead, I noticed how Amos’s eyes of brilliant lime glazed over and were like a spinning void for a solid minute.

When he came out of it, he didn’t say a word.

Instead, the very building began to tremble like an earthquake was about to grace the land.

"I apologize for angering you, Your Majesty,” the woman immediately pleaded as she was on her knees and bowing her head to his feet. “I’ve confirmed the news several times but is true. Your mother and father have been informed of the incident but they’re in the high lands. They will not be able to return back in time for the judgement.”

“Meaning I’m on my own,”King Amos concluded and rolled his eyes.“Inform my kingdom an emergency has sprouted up in the mundane world involving my fated mate which requires my utmost attention. Any rumors or speculation should be immediately stopped. I’ll return in the new year.”

"Yes, Your Majesty.”
