“Jayce,” Willow tenderly stated my name. “You okay?”

It took me a few moments before I could reply, but when I did, the relief in my voice was obvious.

“Never been better,” I replied and hugged her even tighter.

“Fuck! That fight was intense,” someone declared.

“I was scared he’d punch Alpha De Luca,” another spoke.

“Already calling her Alpha, huh?”

“Of course! Unlike some of you guys, I actually had hope on her side.”

“Lorsan’s a fucking goner.”

“Right. He’s doomed for eternity!”

“I don’t know if I should feel sorry for how wounded he is or l pity at the fact that he’s becoming a prisoner of the Fury pack.”

“The latter portion is far more frightening.”

Opening my eyes, I urged my body to recover quickly while the lingering flames that clung to me protectively began to diminish. My flesh was already metastasizing, covering the vulnerable bones and muscles that were pleased to be protected once more versus my previous exposed state.

By the time I was back to normal, I felt exhausted matched with being extremely hot, but I couldn’t help but skim my gaze through the crowd — waiting to see horrified expressions.

Instead, many looked to be in awe and surprise, while others seemed pleased with the outcome. Some began to clap, and soon many followed suit, which allowed me this moment of sheer relief as I rested my chin on Willow’s shoulder.

She didn’t seem to mind in the slightest as she let me continue to hold her like a comforting pillow while observing the verdict my perseverance delivered.

“You did good, Jayce,” Willow whispered as she lifted her hand to move it back so she could manage to slightly wrap her hand around my neck. “So, so good.”

“All thanks to my Rebel,” I assured her though I caught someone in the corner of my eye.

Someone who should have been dead.

I almost thought I was hallucinating, but imaginary or not, I felt like the woman I’d killed with my bare hands was now waiting outside in hopes of seeing me.

A confrontation that I pondered if it was worth leaving my Rebel’s side.

"Such a heated fight made me a bit thirsty,” Willow noted as she glanced over her shoulder, her lips lightly grazing mine. “Jayce, wanna get us something to drink? You could use a bottle yourself after that scorching fight.”

An opportunity.

"Gladly,” I replied but gave her one last tight squeeze as my voice hummed into her mind.

Thank you, Willow.

She smirked as she looked away, her arms still snug around my sweater.

“Just be careful.”

I nodded as I let go of her before glancing over to Alpha Memphis.

“I thought the barrier protects my partners,” I tossed to him as he stood there with his arms crossed.

“From any sort of magic that will result in harm,” he replied. “The original intention of the string was made as if he was pulling her out of the way of danger, which is why the magic barrier didn’t cease his unexpected move. Pretty smart if you ask me. Too bad he underestimated you.”

The man shrugged.
