The silence continued, which only made me glance up at Milo to see his scrunched expression.

“King?” Zane repeated the man’s name but he still didn’t speak. I had no choice but to follow Milo’s gaze until it landed on a dark-skinned man. I was sure I’d seen him once or twice before Aurelia and I stopped hanging out, but despite his tall, muscular frame, he carried very similar characteristics to Milo and Queen Moremi.

“Milo?” I croaked his name, and that seemed to force him to blink out of his daze before he tugged his gaze away to glance down at me. His expression spoke volumes as he allowed me to witness his uncertainty.

He clearly didn’t want to face this confrontation right now, which meant I had to do something to get him out of it.

“If we don’t leave now, we’ll be at risk of not getting back before the execution,” I weakly stressed and even tried to get up, but he immediately forced me to stop trying.

“Move slow.”

“But we need to go,” I pressed.

“I understand, Willow,” he assured me before he had me in his arms and was rising up in one smooth movement. “Do you think you can stand?”

“Yes,” I replied and forced my body to cooperate as he lowered my legs so I could stand with just his arm around my waist. He turned his attention to the group of five men.

“As much as we need to discuss why this madness happened and locate the culprit ASAP, we need to leave,” he emphasized. “We have strong enough evidence that would prove Aurelia’s innocence, but we literally need to leave to Faerie to confirm and return before the execution.”

“Seriously?” Ace whispered. “We’ve tried everything. We proved she was under mind control by a witch we know is a part of the Coven, but they won’t budge and we have no support from the Coven themselves, who deny our claims and threaten to arrest us for being accomplices of Aurelia’s treason.”

“Clearly they know we’re up to something for them to directly attack, but it also proves we may have just hit the jackpot,” Milo stressed as he let go of me so he could take a step forward and emphasize his stance regarding our next plan of action. “So let us go to Faerie. Once we save Aurelia, we can address this.”

I felt like he specifically addressed the second part to King, who was still silent as he stared back into Milo’s eyes.

“Fine,” King finally declared. “We’ll aid the guards and ensure Queen Moremi is treated for her minor injuries.

“Thank you,” Milo whispered as he quietly added, “It’s good to see you’re alive and well, brother.”

Hold the fuck up. Brother? Wait. This is Milo’s younger brother?

I really wanted to see if Queen Moremi was awake and could confirm this, but the mere movement made me queasy until I was falling back before I could blink out of it.

“Willow!” Multiple voices spoke quickly, but I barely leaned back enough before I was against another female — her breasts pressing against my back while her hands gripped my shoulders.

“I guess we know to bring Faerie Gravol with us the next time we go to Faerie for an actual visit.” A mere glance up confirmed that Auraleia was holding me, her expression proving she was tired as fuck.

“Aura,” I whispered. “You switched?”

“Frankly, I had no choice,” she confessed. “My energy levels are wack now so any imbalance triggers it. I’ll be okay with heading to Faerie like this, but if I want to escalate what we need to get done, I’m gonna have to get an elixir to give me enough boost to switch back.”

“That doesn’t sound too har—”

“Aurelia?!” All five voices came from Aurelia’s men, who looked completely shocked at Auraleia’s appearance.

“Oh right,” Aura began and seemed even more tired about the idea of explaining to them why she looked like their mate —who was obviously still in prison right now.

“This is Aurelia’s twin brother,” I weakly announced, which drew their attention to me. “He switches to female when he’s energetically imbalanced. Don’t ask who, what, where, when, or how because we don’t have time for any of it.”

That seemed to do the trick as Auraleia smirked and proceeded to help me stand up properly.

“We’ll dive into it all when Aurelia is safe and freed from all charges,” Aura stressed. “For now, we need all the help while we’re away. Make sure no one else tries to interfere with our rescue mission.”

“Understood,” Zane declared. “If you need anything from us and the pack, reach out to me or Ace. We’ll use any necessary resources to help out.”

“Appreciated,” Milo declared and moved back to my left side while Auraleia remained on my right.

“We’re leaving NYC in your hands,” Milo emphasized. “Feel free to request support from our allied packs until we return. We won’t know the final location of the execution site until three hours before, so please inform us if you get any hits of where it will be. We’ll also check in to confirm our locations are the same.”
