“That’s why she dropped from the ceiling,” another contributed to whatever tale they were conjuring in this confrontational moment. “She’s supposed to perish and her blood used to give us salvation from this monster’s wrath!”

“Now you guys just sound foolish,” I commented as my shoulders slumped. “As much as you guys are trying to find some logical explanation for all this burning madness happening outside these walls, one thing I’m not going to let your cowardly, sly asses get away with is acting oblivious to the sins you’ve all committed.”

“E-Excuse me?” An older man gasped dramatically. “You have no say in this sacrifice!”

“If my ass didn’t have a say, I wouldn’t have been invited, jumped, and almost killed in five fucking minutes,” I barked as that wave of fury was back with vengeance. “You think I can’t see the immense fear and guilt in all of your eyes! You know exactly who this apparent ‘monster’ is and yet you’re trying to act like innocent humans whose hands aren’t cloaked in blood!”

“You’re just a witch!” someone called out.

“She has to be! Look at the tattoos all over her flesh!”

“An abomination at its finest!”

“I bet you were sent by the Coven as a decoy!”

“We won’t fall for your antics!”

“She must be sacrificed to please our Lord!”

I actually was lost for words as I stared at them while they conjured up anything under the sun to make themselves seem like they were doing the world a damn favor by trying to end my existence.

Glancing back at the demonic being that held me, I gave him a sweet smile before leaning down to lay a light kiss on his lips.

That shut them all up for a moment as I managed to slip out of the monster’s hold to drop to the floor. I was grateful to feel the chilled tile and not be in those uncomfortable heels of luxurious suffering.

Spinning around, I decided I needed to get to the point with a warning.

“My name is Willow De Luca, and I’m the daughter of Roberto De Luca. Whether you know me or not is none of my business, but if you really think my mate behind me wants you lot of sinful fools to sacrifice me, then you really are brilliant actors when the truth is right in your faces.”

They tried to continue their façade as I suddenly noticed a man crawling down the hall toward us, his hand pressed against a wound that was bleeding profusely.

“She must be slain!” he declared and drew everyone’s attention to him. “That was a part of our agreement! That she’d be sacrificed to the Vile Queen!” He struggled to continue crawling as he came to a stop to catch his breath.

“Father Christopher?!” Multiple men gasped before two of them rushed to try to aid the ill man who I had a strong hunch wouldn’t survive that wound unless he got his “holy” ass to a hospital ASAP.

“Alexander has dared to betray us!” Father Christopher disclosed. His voice was strong enough to echo against the walls of the church, which only added more emphasis to his revelation. “He sabotaged our deal and betrayed the Vile Queen! It’s exactly why such creatures of demonic degeneration came upon our holy grounds to eat us alive!”

A chuckle came from above where we stood, and all I had to do was look slightly up like everyone else to see Arthur hanging there on strings of red thread. He spun a mini scythe between his fingers as if it were a pencil, while his blonde-haired, blue-eyed façade was replaced with strikingly red hair and mismatched eyes of black and red.

“Now, now. Don’t go blaming the messenger,” Arthur hummed and shrugged his shoulders. “I told you, Christopher. I’m a gambler at heart. Just like how your dear Saint Alexander is a playboy when he’s not in his underworld form.”

A few bystanders gasped and took steps back, their attention clearly on the monstrous being behind me.

“No way. That’s Saint Alexander?”

“So he truly is a demon.”

“And she dares to call him her mate?”

“She’s tainted in sin just like he is! Sacrificing her will vanquish their power from our holy lands.”

Bria growled in my head, and I guessed that translated into real life as the vibration against my chest made a loud enough sound that had everyone flinching.

“You’re all a bunch of fake ass liars!” I snapped. “You really think I can’t see the elephant in the room?! I’ve known Saint long enough and witnessed the sneaky actions of the Vatican to know how your two-faced organization works! Upon the surface, you deem yourselves worthy of salvation, and you do nothing short of holy in the eyes of your Lord and Savior, and yet the moment these church doors close, you bathe in sin!”

I pointed an accusing finger across the room as my words came rushing out of my mouth with immense anger.

“Your own scriptures state to not speak judgment upon others. Those words of wisdom you obsessed about outside these walls give you the very example of what happened when one crucified the innocent, and yet none of you have learned from the past. You dare to act like you don’t know this being behind me is your own Saint Alexander, and yet you insult me for loving him?”
