THE END AND REBIRTH OF SOMETHING NEW

“You got to be fucking kidding me.”

I came to a stop at the bottom of Mount Marcy, my eyes scanning the madness that dare to assault my poor eyes.

"Say you’re desperate to get away with public murder, treason, and injustice, without actually saying it,” Aura huffed as she reached my side. “Fucking hell. There has to be a good five hundred of them.”

“Are you counting with your eyes because if you are, I can guarantee there are a good two hundred hiding in various caves and bushes,” I reasoned and shook my head. “Who knows? They may have even convinced the bear I wrestled to get his entire family to come to jump me.”

Aura blinked a few times before she glanced over at me.

“You wrestled a bear?”

“I was completely incoherent and had no clue the deed was done.”

“Naked,” Loki declared, and we glanced back to see the rest of the pack as they arrived in black combat gear.

None of us were wearing layers of clothes because it was clear we were all going to have to shift, but the odds were not going to be in our favor unless we got up this damn mountain in fifteen minutes or less.

“That first fleet in the front row are all Russian assassins,” Viktor declared as he cracked his neck. “They really aren’t playing around here.”

“What excuse do they possibly have to guard the mountain using all these wolves?”

“The excuse of public scrutiny and riots with how inhuman and savage they’re acting by killing a member of our paranormal community without so much as giving a proper trial,” Ruby announced as she emerged from our right with Whitney and a group of massive men who were clearly ready for a battle.

“Ruby? I thought you were waiting back in Faerie?” I asked in surprise but was emotionally moved that she was willing to help.

“And miss beating the shit out of these fuckers who think they’re the law?” Ruby laughed. “I didn’t keep your seat nice and toasty for people to think they can murder those you care about and get away with it. It’s been a while since I’ve had to put a few ranked shifters in place. This will remind them that just because I’ve stepped down, that doesn’t mean I’m letting shit slip up.”

She walked right over to me before she placed her hands on my shoulders.

“I’ve got a game plan, but that means my big sis has gotta pull a solo card and carry the weight of the pack.”

“Elaborate,” Aura encouraged. She clearly wasn’t in with the whole “solo” part of Ruby’s suggestion.

“Willow’s the fastest out of everyone here,” she emphasized as her hands left my shoulders and she gestured around all of us.”

Dimitris cleared his throat, and I couldn’t help but smirk while Ruby rolled her eyes.

“Listen, Cocky Pureblood of an Alpha. Your fast, but your pureblood speed ain’t helping your ass here,” she stated and pointed to the sky that showed a clear magical net above that hovered from the tip of the mountain all the way to 10 kilometers from where we stood. “And that shit up there is going to inhibit your ability to run like an overdosed vampire.”

Dimitris pouted his lips, which were kind of cute. I had to remind myself we were on the clock, which had me glancing back at Ruby.

“So what do I have to do?”

“You are going to run up that mountain like a fucking rocking ship and when you reach the execution site, you’ll do anything to stop the chaos,” she revealed and then pointed to the rest of the pack. “Then your Forbidden pack is going to be close behind to give you backup seeing as they’re gonna be tailgating you and ensuring nothing gets in your way. Having them as backup is good just in case things get ugly,” she explained. “Then my gang and I will deal with this small fry while Aurelia’s pack are observing the execution and will aid in providing additional support.”

“Why does that sound like such a simple plan?” Arthur complained, and I realized he was literally behind me as he laid his chin on my shoulder, which he always did when he was nervous.

I lifted my hand to reach out and lightly tap his head to comfort him.

“Sometimes the simplest things have the greatest effect,” Ruby declared. “Now we’ve got eleven minutes to get up that fucking mountain and save Aurelia.”

“Ruby, are you sure we can handle all of these guys?” Whitney sounded hesitant. “They’re literally observing us like we’re not close to being a threat.”

“Of course we can,” she proudly declared and looked over to Saint. “Hey, Dark Lord. I want to see your ‘the world will burn’ side.”

“In all honesty, Dark Lord me doesn’t wanna come out and play,” Saint genuinely replied, which made Arthur chuckle.
