The news bomb was making my mind spin dangerously, but I couldn’t afford to pass out now, for the truth was about be dropped into my grasp—and I had a strong feeling it was all on purpose.

“How do you know about this?!” Christopher snapped in warning, forgetting that he was still facing the Vile Queen and her loyal follower.

His grunt was followed with him sputtering for breath as the woman laughed once again.

“I did my research,” she emphasized. “I’ve honestly never seen an organization so desperate to hide the truth to their own god. Did you believe that I took pity on Arthur when your organization gave him up in exchange for five years’ supply of shifter blood from my prisons? That I didn’t know he was predicted by the Vatican’s Seer to be the second mate destined for your Dark Lord because we all know the possibilities of any royal having two destined mates? Oh! But I guess you thought I wouldn’t have known that the little girl who was your Dark Lord’s mate was but a fake decoy. You haven’t revealed that to him yet, have you?”

“You…You…”

“Shouldn’t know that,” Garfield finished. “Like a lot of things, but you lose the privilege of secrecy when you fuck up far too many times, Father Christopher.”

“Forgive me, please! All I need is one more chance!”

“Didn’t you say the same thing when we confronted you in warning the night Saint Alexander crossed paths with Willow De Luca at the club?” Garfield revealed. “We’d been warned that she was one of his mates and they needed to be separated for good reason, and yet your greedy ass sat there and allowed them not only to become comrades in business but pack mates too. Insulting.”

“The only good thing out of all of this is that Arthur is dead and so is Willow, which means both his destined mates have truly perished.” The queen simmered on that information. “It will only be a little while before it finally clicks into his body. He’ll feel the crumbling of those bonds and will have no choice but to acknowledge that his mates were murdered right under his nose.”

“Then your whole organization will be lost in his wrath,” Garfield concluded. “Unless you kill him and fill that chalice with his blood. That would probably save your Vatican’s demise.”

“Please,” Christopher begged. “Please!”

"It’s Christmas,” the queen acknowledged. “I guess I should be a bit merciful. Especially when I’m finally getting what I’ve wanted for years. I’ve waited more than fifteen years to unlock what I’ve hidden in the realms of my daughter’s body. Now it’ll come to fruition. That’s all thanks to your fuckup, so I’ll spare you from death.”

“Thank you, Vile Queen! You won’t regret this!”

“Regret?” She couldn’t sound more enlightened by the word. “The only thing I regret is not marrying the man I was destined to be with. Everything else has never been deemed worthy of having a spot in my subconscious and trust me.” She paused to emphasize her next point. “Your failures will never plague my mind.”

“I promise not to fail you again, Vile Queen!”

“That’s the thing.” She sighed dramatically and I sensed the shift in the air. “You already have.”

“Wait! Vile Queen! I-I thought you’d give me your assistance?!”

“Assistance? Why?” She sounded baffled at the suggestion. “You’re only up against your Dark Lord. Unless his royal marks were activated during the confrontation between him, Arthur, and De Luca, there’s nothing to be worried about.”

“I-I’m positive nothing was activated before they perished!” Christopher swore. “B-But we’re low on resources and power. We can’t face Saint like this. If he finds out about the chalice and the fact that we sold Arthur to your prison knowing he was his mate…well…you know what will become of us!”

The swirling intensity of magic began to spike, which only confirmed this woman was about to ditch.

“Vile Queen! Please!”

“You’ve had how many years to try to prevent destiny from prospering?” she announced and her voice already sounded far away. “No amount of greed, power, or money will pull me into the graves you all dug for yourselves. I’ve got exactly what I’ve wanted and soon, the world will see my ultimate weapon. Until then, anyone else’s problems aren’t my own to bear.”

Her dismal was obvious, but Garfield sealed the deal.

“This will be the last time we’re in touch, Father Christopher,” he declared. “Good luck with your affairs, and may the imprisonment that follows remind you of the very sins your organization has committed for power.”

“Please! Wait!”

The heavy atmosphere subsided in a flash, but the revelation seemed to finally sink in and I didn’t know how to react.

No. I know exactly how I wish to react, but I realize the outcome will do more damage than good.

Royalty. I was from some sort of royal line…and my parents were male? They were killed for conceiving me with magic but bestowed the power of the church within my veins so they couldn’t kill me.

I was made into a puppet to their whim then manipulated to think my mate was that slut of a bitch, but little did I know one mate was sold to the Vile Queen for profit, and Willow wouldn’t have crossed my path, for she was dealing with far worse back then.

Everything seemed to make sense as to why I was so fluid with my sexuality. I’d been destined to love a male and a female and yet the Vatican wanted nothing of the sort.
