“Hey!” Onyx snapped but Loki ignored him.

“You guys need to understand,” Loki pressed. “If even a fraction of the energy remains in any of us, Saint’s soul is going to be incomplete! The moment he comes out of this, he won’t be the same Saint you all know and care dearly about.”

The revelation surprised me, and truthfully, this may have been the real underlying motive to get me out of the playing field.

Destroy a single piece of me so when I returned to consciousness, I was someone completely different—someone they could manipulate and control.

“Dimitris,” Willow quietly pleaded.

“Cut your wrist, Loki,” Dimitris urged.

“There’s one more problem,” Milo surprisingly brought up, and I was sure all open eyes were on him.

“What did you see?” Neo questioned.

“We need one more person,” Milo revealed.

“Why?” Viktor asked the prime question on everyone’s mind.

“We’re not even,” Milo stressed. “Dimitris, Neo, Saint, Jayce, Onyx, Loki, Viktor, Willow, and myself. That makes nine.”

“I’m not following,” Jayce whispered.

“He’s right,” Viktor groaned. It was as if he just recalled whatever this uneven business was all about. “Rituals that play with someone’s life have to be equal. Think of it like a scale. Both sides have to carry an equal level of weight for it to be balanced. In this case, there are nine of us. It won’t work.”

“But Saint is the prime focus. Minus him and we’re eight which is even,” Dimitris spoke up.

“No. It doesn’t work like that,” Milo argued. “Think of it like Willow’s ritual at the lagoon. She counts as one and since it was between her and Viktor, it was balanced. When removing the excess energy, I was present with Neo, which makes us a set of two. Even when things got hard and we worried the energy levels would leak out, Saint and Jayce took over. Energy exchange that plays with one’s life and balance needs an equal amount of participants or there will be consequences.”

“Which is why…I’m…not dead!” There was Arthur’s chipped in response before he wheezed. “And…I’m dying.”

“Has anyone told you you’re dramatic?” Onyx genuinely asked.

Loki replied with, “I have and he doesn’t fucking listen.”

“I think you two forget he has two bullet wounds in his chest,” Milo noted. “Particularly, one in his lung.”

“I love how you state it so casually,” Neo commented.

“We’re all fucking insane,” Jayce concluded.

“Guys,” Willow pleaded, and that seemed to get them all back on course.

“So you’re basically saying we need to pull this douche in the pack bond to save Saint or his energy will either be an eternal battery for some chalice or we risk Saint not being our playboy Dark Lord,” Loki summed up. “Fucking hell.”

“Admit…it,” Arthur began and struggled to chuckle. “You missed…my secondary ass.”

“Shut up, Arthur,” Willow groaned. “And don’t die either!”

“Roger…Sweet Domino.”

“Sweet Domino?!”

One thing we all could agree with was our possessive jealousy of our Forbidden Flower.

“Saint’s DYING, GUYS! Start fucking moving!” Willow screamed.

That had Dimitris barking new orders.
