How many times had I wished to hear those words?

My wolf remained in the shadows, but his eyes bored into the woman before us. He sensed her pride just like I did, and it only made sense why he hid so flawlessly in the element he knew could shield his own emotions from coming up to the surface.

“Why?”

It was the only word I could manage to say.

Mother wasn’t the type to give lengthy explanations as to why decisions were made or why people and shifters alike did the deeds that landed them in bad situations.

That was Father’s role.

Mother got to the point, because the faster you knew the facts, the easier it was to target your prey.

"Today’s events have spread vastly across the lands of power, and since your pack is involved, it only made sense that the Coven of purebloods informs you of your rights.”

I wasn’t sure how to feel about that, but I didn’t interrupt her as she carried on to the point.

“I’ve come to inform you that you have our utmost support and will be given any further necessities, resources, and weapons if anyone outside those who targeted your pack attempts to interfere or take sides.”

I was actually speechless because that wasn’t the news I was expecting in the slightest.

“Shocked? Intrigued?” she offered and gave a humbling smile. “Or speechless?”

I bobbed my head at the third one.

She laughed softly as her eyes migrated until they landed on Willow’s sleeping frame.

I tried not to grow rigid in defense, but Mother caught the slight protective tensing of my body before I could attempt to hide it.

“So she’s your Everlasting?”

The way her eyes twinkled with joy allowed me to relax instantly before I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“She is.”

“The fact that she has leaders of supernaturals quaking in their thrones confirms she’s about to ignite immense change,” Mother disclosed. “Which obviously isn’t favored by everyone. You can’t blame them. People fear when their spots upon the hierarchy are at risk of being stolen from them.”

“The Vatican and the Coven,” I voiced the obvious.

“The fae are intrigued as well,” she revealed, which immediately concerned me.

“They will not become a threat,” she stated, confronting my worry first. “The fae are in alliance with the purebloods. Just as they are with the High Council. They are actually holding back, for one of their own seems to be in the midst of your fight.”

“Prince Milo,” I disclosed.

“Ah. Prince Milo Ramsey. One of the heirs of the Dark Fae Kingdom,” she summed up and bobbed her head. “He’s yet to meet his brother, right?”

“Brother?” I inquired and tried to mentally decipher whether Milo had mentioned having another sibling, but my mind was still frazzled.

“Older. I doubt Milo recalls him. Each fae prince must go down their own path if they wish to discover who they’re destined to be. I’m sure they’ll cross paths when fate is ready to bring them together, but until then, it’s becoming clear that he has an interest in your Everlasting like the other members of your pack.”

“Yes,” I noted and felt a bit uncomfortable with the approaching topic. “Is that a problem?”

“In normal circumstances, maybe. However, it’s becoming pretty clear that this sole woman not only can handle all of you but kindles hidden strengths and abilities in each of you, which is becoming an asset no one expected.”

“Which is why they all want her,” I grumbled.

“Affirmative,” she agreed with a smirk as her eyes darkened. “The real question is, what lengths are you willing to go to make a statement?”
