A GAME OF HIDE AND SEEK

~WILLOW~

“Do you think this is a game?”

I breathed unevenly as the restraints kept me against the chilled surface of the table.

My body was tense, my flushed cheeks wet with tears and sweat, but my eyes stared defiantly upward.

Glaring at the woman who peered down at me with a malicious smile.

“You’ve forgotten the power I have over you,” she snarled.

I couldn’t speak, the cloth of white tightly pressed against my flesh while a mouth guard was in place so I didn’t bite my lips during the electrocuting stages of “therapy.”

“You can look at me with that heavy gaze of immense hate, but nothing changes,” she insisted as she leaned in close so I could sniff the toxic perfume that made my stomach queasy in repulsion. “This will benefit you in the future. Then you’ll praise me for being such a good guardian to you.”

Her long hands were clammy and cold as they reached out to brush away the droplet that dripped from my nose. The sight of blood only confirmed that I was reaching the limit the male in the lab coat had reminded her earlier about.

Like it would stop her.

“I need perfect, Willow,” she stressed as if I’d forgotten. “Perfection is key for me to reach the top. No one will belittle me with you as my daughter. No one in this universe will fight against me with you by my side.”

She gripped my cheeks then and her smile only frightened me for what was to come.

"So you be a good girl and keep your end of our promise, yes? You won’t tell a soul. Not Roberto or that bodyguard of yours. Nothing to that stalker boy and not a hint to Aurelia. You want them to be safe, yes?”

Her grip tightened until her sharp nails dug into my flesh, leaving me in a state of agony even as I fought to not show how she was hurting me.

“Right, Willow?”

I was scared…frightened…of what she could do to me, and yet I couldn’t nod in obedience like I always did.

She’d take everything from me.

"Is my threat not enough?” she pondered to herself and then began to laugh. “That won’t do. That won’t do at all, my prodigy.”

She let me go and suddenly I was free, but standing there in the familiar room did nothing to give me hope of escaping her clutches.

My breath hitched as it felt like the walls were closing in, leaving me no choice but to take a few steps back—until I was pressed against the cement wall.

There was the tall woman in her black dress, the shadows hiding her face yet emphasizing what a monster she was with the shadow’s support.

All I could do was make myself into a ball, the fear so overwhelming that I struggled to get a mere breath into my trembling body.

“What if I take them away from you?”

I dared to look up, to meet her haunting eyes that glowed a purple shade that lacked vibrance. It was like a dull grey with hints of purple, but the intensity they carried could still ignite fear in anyone who knew what this woman could do to you and those you cared about.

“Dimitris.”

She said the name like it was sweet chocolate, and though I couldn’t grasp if I knew this person, there was a familiarity there.

I cared dearly about him.

"Neo? Saint? Jayce? What about Milo? Or Viktor? Arthur is your new toy, isn’t he?” The names had the same effect as the first, but I couldn’t put a finger on their appearances.

“I know,” she hummed. “Onyx.”
