“NO!” The eerie screech echoed hauntingly, but I was already fading away.

Returning to the reality where I belonged.

My eyes snapped open, and I immediately sat up, needing to gasp as much air as I could while my eyes frantically looked around for some sort of enemy hidden in the shadows.

A mere glance next to me immediately aided my tense limbs as the sight of Dimitris sleeping right next to me helped calm my frantic heart. The sudden drop in adrenaline made me feel weak, my eyes immediately drooping before I leaned back until I was lying against the generous number of pillows.

I could fall asleep in seconds, but I tried to remain awake in hopes I could decipher what happened in my dream. The frightening confrontation was already fading from my consciousness, but I tried to stop it from slipping away entirely.

There was a frightening woman—familiar, wicked, always threatening me whenever she could. Black dress, long fingers, sharp nails. Possessive, dangerous, a sinister smile. I fought to get a glimpse of her eyes but only the shade of greyish purple came to my mind.

The strain was already tiring me out, encouraging me to relax against the sheets.

I wished to sleep again, but prickles of fear worried me.

What if this entity came back for me? Or wished to fight against me?

No matter who she was, it was clear I carried some sort of fear at the idea of her assaulting me in my dreams, but I wished to pinpoint her significance.

What does she have that frightens me to the core?

Arms snaked around me, pulling me into a hug that left me rigid for a solid few seconds.

“Relax, baby,” Dimitris muttered in his sleep as he tightened his hold around me. “Relax for me.”

He didn’t use his Alpha command, but my tight limbs began to release every hint of tension from my body.

“Good girl,” he praised into my shoulder as he lightly licked the very spot he’d bitten earlier. The simple touch made my body purr and my worries fade away.

This type of intimacy felt so rare to me when it came to Dimitris. It wasn’t like we hadn’t cuddled or slept in the same bed multiple times, but there was just something about this that was different.

Special and protective.

I allowed myself to close my eyes, those heavy lids singing hymns of glee to be able to rest. I felt like I’d only been asleep for an hour or two, which was why I slipped back into slumber so easily. It wasn’t until a set of lips gently brushed mine matched with the creak of the bed that I stirred from sleep.

“You got here faster than Jayce.” The husky voice that came from behind me was from Dimitris, but he didn’t sound annoyed or anything.

He didn’t really sound awake, honestly.

The low chuckle was followed by another light kiss on my forehead.

“Our princess was having a nightmare.” There was Milo’s voice that was as calm as ever. How he was able to main such a harmonious vibe on a regular basis always intrigued me. Especially when he was a dark fae.

Can’t judge a book by its cover.

“I felt it,” Dimitris muttered and held me a little tighter. “I was going to interfere but sensed your energy. I didn’t think you could dream walk.”

“I try not to,” Milo confessed, and I felt the weight against the mattress further dip before an arm casually draped over my waist. “It’s invasive and not something I enjoy doing without the permission of the host.”

“However…,” Dimitris encouraged him to continue.

“That wasn’t necessarily a past nightmare,” Milo disclosed. “She tried to harm Willow in her dream.”

“With physical attacks or?”

“It felt like more of an emotional attack than anything. Mental confusion with empty threats,” Milo admitted and yawned. “She’s desperate for Loki’s return, it seems. His freedom is grinding her gears compared to Arthur’s.”

“Arthur’s energy gives off the impression of a middle child who is only acknowledged when the older and younger child aren’t present,” Dimitris summed up. “Even though Arthur feels like a powerful knight piece on the chess board, the Vile Queen sees him as a pawn.”
