“Roberto,” Ruby muttered in disdain. “He had his reasons to act that way.”

“No matter the reasoning, his impeccable acting got his cherished daughter and heir pushed off a cliff and into the hands of the Vile Queen’s clutches for her diabolical plan.”

“So what did they do exactly?” Ruby asked as her concerned eyes locked on me—like everyone else’s in the room.

The tension was palpable as I felt my heart rate shoot up at the mere idea of explaining what was done to me. I didn’t want to reflect on it here.

Didn’t want to relive those memories right now.

"We need to come back to this conversation later.”

Everyone looked to Milo, whose arms were crossed while his softened eyes were staring back at me—their prism glimmer confirming he’d just seen a glimpse of a future.

"Our trespassers are about to wake up.”

“Oh!” Arthur snapped out of his demonic state to clap his hands in glee. “Are we going on a killing spree? Please tell me we’re going on a killing—”

“No.” Loki huffed and had the guy over his shoulder in seconds.

“HEY! Where are you going? I didn’t say bye to Sweet Domino!”

“Our lovely new Alpha said you should chill with Saint while we get rid of those fuckers,” Loki replied.

Dimitris must have internally requested Loki’s interference, which only reminded me that he was a part of the pack connection now.

“You don’t want to leave him alone while he’s recovering, do you?”

He purposely paused as Arthur was out of his grip and literally sitting elegantly on Loki’s shoulder like it was an actual stool.

“Make haste!” he declared and waved at me like he was the Queen of England. “Farewell, my Sweet Domino! Your adorable pet will be back short—GAH!”

Loki brushed him right off his shoulder which left him crashing down to the floor.

“Ow!! Loki! How could be so rough like that?! Remember we used to be villainous comrades! Hey! Where are you going?!”

“Anywhere away from you.”

“No! You’re my second anxiety support doll! Come with me!” Arthur was up and had his arm hooked around Loki’s. The poor man tried to go one way, but Arthur simply tugged lightly to pull him like he wasn’t surely 300 lbs. of muscle. “To the recovery room!”

“Fucking hell! Let me go, Arthur! We’re not fucking buddies!”

“Lalalalala!” Arthur sang and proceeded to whistle happily.

We all just stared at the way they went before we looked at Dimitris.

“Willow, Milo, and I will go outside and deal with the intruders. Jayce, I want you on watch duty simply because I don’t know what Arthur’s triggers are. As you all saw, Arthur switched personalities at least four times during that conversation.”

“You actually noticed?” Ruby sounded a bit impressed. “And four?”

“Four,” Dimitris emphasized. “You also like provoking him.”

“He started it.” Ruby huffed.

I expected Dimitris to brush it off but he shook his head as his face was stern with an obvious warning. “I’d never scold you, a member of the royal family, but do not push my packmates. No matter how manipulative and trigger-inducing they try to be.”

“He provokes me and attempts to make me look like an inconsiderate bitch of a sister who secretly despises her because my family placed me in her shoes so she could blossom into the princess who will one day be queen, but I’m in the wrong?” Ruby wasn’t liking this conversation one bit. “You’re scolding me because I wish to be a protective sister? Or does my presence only remind you that you had to rely on our foundation by promising to give the Alpha role to my her?”

I wanted to say something, but Milo’s hand suddenly slipped into mine and the light squeeze forced me to glance over at him. His expression was neutral, but those orbs of gold told me to hold my tongue and let Dimitris handle it.
