She continued to giggle before she looked at me with a longing gaze.
“Aurelia used to threaten him with shit like that.”
“You miss her too.” I could see it in her eyes.
“I do,” Willow whispered. “She’ll always be my best friend. Even if…we can’t be friends right now because of the circumstances.”
“Meaning you hope to mend it once you obtain power,” I concluded.
“I don’t hope, Milo,” she whispered while her eyes flickered with determination. “I will get my best friend back. It just depends on timing.”
“Good,” I whispered and kissed her cheek. “I’ll be by your side the whole way.”
“Except to the garden,” she teased, which made me pout.
“Did you actually want to go there?”
“Well, a quick walk would have been nice,” she admitted shyly. “I kind of don’t want Dimitris seeing that I cried. I feel like he’d want to pull a Saint and destroy the world. Especially with how easily triggered he is in his pureblood form.”
“True,” I replied and looked past her. “You can go with Thing One and Thing Two.”
“Thing what?” Willow questioned before looking over her shoulder only to beam at the sight of Onyx, Neo, and Viktor. “Oh shit! You guys are back?”
Neo was the first to reach Willow, and he pulled her straight into a hug.
“Do I need to kill someone for making you cry, or should I let Onyx kill Milo as compensation?” Neo inquired calmly, and yet goosebumps rushed up my arms in warning.
“Wait!” I put my arms up in defense and had to move entirely to avoid Onyx’s punch.
“Did you make my Sugar cry, Milo?” Onyx growled like a fucking bear ready to destroy me.
“You’re so trigger happy,” Viktor muttered, but the sight of him changing the bullets in his gun only made me want to run for the fucking hills.
“Ugh,” Willow groaned and pulled back from Neo’s hug to glare at her obsessive stalker boyfriend and assassin bodyguard. “He didn’t do anything! He was comforting me!”
“Oh.” Onyx paused, and then he had an arm over my shoulder while he patted my bicep far too harshly. “Well then. No need for bloodshed, right, Milo?”
He let go to slap my back—leaving me to gasp for breath because it felt like all the air in my lungs was gone.
“You’re too rough,” Neo noted but kissed Willow’s temple. “Why are you sad, Sweetness? I can make things better. Just say the word.”
She laughed as she stared at the man with his sinister smile and black blindfold.
“I want to go to the garden real quick before Milo goes on a killing spree,” she declared. “I think we’d only have ten minutes at best.”
“Ten minutes, garden adventure,” Neo summed and wrapped his hand around hers before lifting it to kiss the back where his specific mate mark was. “Let’s not delay, mate.”
“You’ll come with me?” She sounded so surprised and yet excited.
“Nothing else to do while we’re on a break from the Rapture,” Neo noted and looked over to Onyx and me. “C’mon, Onyx. If we’re fast enough, we can enjoy a threesome in the woods.”
“Neo!” Willow gasped and shrieked when she was now over Onyx’s shoulder and already down the hall. “Onyx Fucking Charm! Let me fucking down, you Stalker of a Bulky Fucker!”
“No can do, Sugar,” he hummed happily. “We’ve got sex to enjoy in the great outdoors!”
“My ass isn’t going to fuck in nature with poison ivy vines!”
“Live a little,” Onyx said with a laugh. “No poison ivy is killing my Forbidden Queen.”
