CHAPTER 22

ARROW

Walking into the event, Silver’s eyes widen, and I smile. After Don came back and told us what today was, I felt terrible. Can’t believe I’d forgotten—we’d studied her bio.

When Don suggested getting out and doing something fun, I knew exactly where we should go. Bringing her to see a show that represents us—in a way that makes it look like an illusion—is perfect. I know she’ll love it, and it’ll take her mind off of everything that today represents.

She catches me staring and blushes an adorable pink. Pushing a strand of hair behind her ear, she looks up at me from under her lashes. “What?”

I lean over and kiss her temple. “You look beautiful,” I whisper in her ear, making her tremble.

She turns and kisses the corner of my lips before pulling back. “Thank you, Jax,” she says, taking my elbow.

Wells and Don are walking back toward us with our tickets.

“You ready to have your mind blown, Snow? Some of the things they can do inside here are extraordinary,” Wells says, taking her other hand.

“I’ve always wanted to come to one of these shows. Magic and illusions have always fascinated me.”

Wells snorts and she gives him a funny look. “Babe, I will show you magic anytime you want,” he says, with a wiggle of his brows. She rolls her eyes and keeps walking.

I give him a glare over her head, and he shrugs. He’s getting careless with the rules.A warning tingle runs down my body and I freeze, looking around.

“Everything okay, Jax?” she asks me, tilting her head.

I give her a smile and guide her toward Donovan. “Why don’t you guys go ahead and find our seats? I need to check something really quick.” I take my phone out of my pocket for emphasis.

Wells goes to follow them, but I grab his elbow.

“Stay,” I hiss.

He gives me a look, but listens. As soon as Silver and Don walk away, I drag him to a dark corner by the concession stand. To outsiders, it looks like I’m just getting some snacks, but really I’m trying to see something. Anything. I found out the other day that as long as Silver isn’t around, and I’m with one of the guys, my abilities are enhanced.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath, clearing my mind of everything. A scene flashes before me in a fast flash. Just a snippet, like a puzzle with the pieces all out of whack.

“What the hell,” I mutter. This is new. I try again, this time focusing on one piece at a time.

Silver is taking someone's hand. She looks up at him with a big smile, but you can see it’s fake from the devastation in her eyes.

“You’re safe now, my little devil—where you are meant to be,” a man’s gruff voice says.

She follows him to a stone door I’ve never seen before and stops, looking back as if waiting for someone. He tugs on her hand, encouraging her to follow. She wipes a fallen tear from her cheek and moves forward once more.

He opens the door to a large room, filled with red and black candles. Some are burned down to the end, others tall and dripping with wax.

“Welcome home, Silver.”

“Arrow!” Wells slaps me across the face, bringing me back. “Dude, what the fuck was that?” he demands.

I look at him like he’s stupid. “What do youthinkthat was? I was having a damn premonition,” I snap, rubbing the cheek he just hit.

Wells shakes his head, and runs his hand through his hair before rubbing his chin. Dark stubble lines it. I’ve noticed that since Silver arrived, he doesn’t shave as much. “No man, that wasn’t a normal vision. Your eyes went white and you started muttering things. I thought you were having a seizure,” he mutters, looking worried.

I pull him into my chest, giving him a hug. People don’t know this, but being an empath makes him extremely sensitive about the people he loves.

Take Silver, for example. After two days with her, he confessed to wanting to marry her. His emotions control him.

His body is shaking and I feel like shit.He really was scared.I pull him from my chest and hold his face between my palms, bringing his eyes to mine. “Hey, it's okay. I’m okay. I promise—it was just a vision.” He gives me a nod and I let him go.
