I line myself up and slowly push into her warm heat. She opens her eyes and stares into mine. I move my hips, thrusting slow and deep, and her eyes fill with emotion. She reaches up and pulls my lips back to hers, kissing me slow and soft. She whispers against my lips, “I love you.”

I freeze inside, immediately sitting up and rolling away. “Snow, you know this is just fun, right?”Why am I saying this?

She scooches back and sits up against the headboard, crossing her arms over her chest, tears filling her eyes. What is going on right now? I do love her.

She lowers her eyes to the blanket, and whispers, “Just go.”

I get up from the bed and kiss the top of her head, then walk out the door. Broken and so confused. What the fuck is going on?

Why am I leaving her right now? My heart and head want to stay and hold her, and tell her I love her, that she's the one, but my body is being controlled by someone else.

I walk to my room, naked. I move to my dresser, putting some clothes on, before lying down on my bed.

Something is wrong.I try to yell for the guys or text them on my phone, but I can’t—I’m frozen. Whatever this is just ruined the best thing I’ve ever had, and I can’t do a thing to try and fix it. A tear rolls down my cheek. My heart feels like it’s breaking.

My door pushes open and Lucifer is standing there, staring at me.Is he smiling? Can cats smile? He turns to walk away, tail swishing as he goes.

Hellllllpppppp!

SILVER

I jump up and throw some clothes on.I think I’ll take a walk.I need some air. I finally admitted my feelings to Wells, and he tossed them away.

Did I read the signs wrong? I thought he loved me too.

I walk past the garden down toward the Academy. I enter the small coffee shop, and order an apple cider. I love fall. This time of year has always been my favorite.

As I move to a table, I bump into someone. “I am so sorry.”

Looking up, I see Professor Luke. He gives me a grin, helping me to steady without spilling my drink. “We have to stop meeting like this.”

I laugh and his smile becomes even bigger. I move toward a table and he takes the seat across from me.

“Glad I ran into you. I wanted to talk about what happened recently.” He sighs and runs his hand down his face.

I take a sip of my drink and look down.I really don’t want to talk about that. I wave it away and run my hand through my hair. “It’s water under the bridge really,” I say and he nods, giving me another smile.Gah, he’s gorgeous.

“So how have you been adjusting to Alistar Academy?” he asks, taking a sip of his own drink.

I lean back and sigh. “It’s been an adjustment. I thought I would hate it here, but I kinda love it.” I take another sip.So damn good.I close my eyes and groan, and he laughs.

“How are the journals coming along? I’m interested to see what you come up with as your final project. Your great-great-grandmother has one of the most interesting and beneficial histories of Alistar Academy, or Alistar House as they called it back then.” He looks off into space, as if in a memory.

I lean forward and place my drink down. “Have you been to the hidden room with her portrait? I went there on my first day but I didn't get to explore.”

He leans forward, mirroring me, then whispers, “I could get in a lot of trouble for this, but do you want to check it out? I happen to have the key.” His eyes are shining with excitement and there’s a small smirk on his lips.

I bite my lip, thinking it over. This is probably a very bad idea, but I really don’t want to go home after the way Wells treated me.

Fuck it!I stand up and grab my drink.

“Let’s go.”

Luke opens the back door in the library by doing that cool nail thing, then unlocks the next door, swinging it open. I’m once again frozen at the threshold, staring at Elena’s portrait. She was beautiful, but now that I know her story, you can't mistake the haunted look in her eyes.

“It really is uncanny how much you resemble her,” Luke observes, coming up behind me. He presses his chest to my back and slides his hands through my hair, twirling it up in a style just like Elena’s in the portrait. I turn to look at him and he backs away, dropping my hair, and clearing his throat.

“So what did you want to see, Ms. Forest?”
