“Where’s Cal?”
I sigh and give her a sad smile. “He’s in the hot tub. I’m worried about him. Ever since Rooke left, he’s not been acting the same. I wish he would just call him back or something. I’ve never seen him this low.” She looks out the back window to the pool and gives me a naughty smirk.
“Maybe we should cheer him up then.” She grabs my hand and leads me outside. Cal doesn’t notice us and keeps looking at the stars.

Cal’s eyes pop and he gives her a smile. It’s the first one I’ve seen in a week, and I sigh with a little relief. I really have been worried about him. He’s not eating, and I know he hasn’t been sleeping, he paces the halls all night.

“I have to go. We have wedding stuff to deal with in the morning. I have to taste test some cakes, and get the menu planned.” She moves back over to me and leans down for a quick kiss. I watch her leave as I stay in the hot water and relax.
Tonight was crazy and unexpected, but I loved every minute. If this is just a glimpse of our future, I think I will be very happy.
Chapter Forty
Ileave Nate in the hot tub and make my way through the house to the kitchen. I left my bag on the counter earlier. I’m hoping to grab it, slip through the back door and go home. I need to call Kian. I’m worried about Rooke and I think he might know someone to help me track him down. I’m keeping strong for Cal, but inside I’m a mess.
Why did he leave? Was it something I did? Am I to blame for Cal being lost and alone? Fuck, I hope not. Things had just been starting to work out. I should have known it was too good to be true.
I grab my bag and shuffle toward the door, needing to shower off the chlorine and eat something. I had a couple of workouts today, between my run and the hot sex, and I’m starting to feel light-headed.
I think a hot bath might be in order too. My legs still feel like jelly. Those boys fucked me good. My body is perfectly sore. I open the back door but come to an abrupt stop when Mr. Reynolds is there. He gives me a sleazy smile and I back up a few paces into the kitchen. I glance behind me, hoping to find one of the servants or guys because Nixen seriously gives me the creeps lately.
