“The things I want to do to you, Ava,” he growls before nipping lightly at my lip and standing up straight, taking me along with him. “I guess you win this round.”

His husky tone sends a shiver down my spine.

“We’re going to my place,” he states, throwing his leg over the bike and taking a seat.

I panic, realizing for the first time that I’m in a strange country, and no one has any idea who I’m with. “I need to make a phone call.”

“I’ll be right here waiting.” He leaves a gentle kiss on my nose before I spin on my heels and take a few steps away from him.

I quickly scroll through my phone book and call Charlotte. Out of all my friends, she’s the least likely to give me a hard time for what I’m about to do.

“Hey. What’s up, chica?”

“I’m about to get on the back of a vintage Harley and ride off into the sunset with a man I’ve known for about twenty-four hours,” I blurt out, wanting to get this conversation over with as soon as possible.

“Okay.”

“That’s it?! You won’t tell me I’m being insane or that I should just tell him to stuff it and head back to the hotel and read?!” I screech, turning around to make sure Callen didn’t hear me.

Charlotte giggles softly. “You’re talking to the girl who ran off to Paris without telling her parents and then got engaged to her cooking instructor.”

“Wait, you went to Paris to learn to cook and came out with a husband?”

“Pretty much.”

“Bravo!” I giggle before getting back to the problem at hand. “Callen is amazing, but I’m just not sure this is the best idea.”

“You’re worried about your plan, aren’t you?”

I drop my chin to my chest, having no need to answer her. All the girls know about the plan I’ve set out for my life since my parents died and my desire to live my life the way they would’ve wanted. I’ve taken it upon myself to live out their dreams and never once considered that I could have some of my own.

“Take it from someone else who almost let their parents' expectations ruin her chance at happiness. Sometimes fate has other plans, and besides, who’s saying you can’t have both this guy and a future as a museum curator?”

I should’ve known Charlotte would understand. She ran off to Paris to take a pastry class from one of the greatest pastry chefs in the world without even telling her parents. I just need to maintain a balance between what I want and being with Callen.

“Thanks, hun.” I smile before pulling his business card from my pocket and snapping a photo. “I’m sending you a text with the full name, address, and phone number for his business. If I don’t call you or the girls by tomorrow, send in the cavalry.”

“You’ve got it. Good luck!” Charlotte shouts into the phone before hanging up.

“Letting someone know who I am, just in case I really am a serial killer?”

I jump at the sound of Callen’s voice behind me.

“Something like that,” I tell him as he threads his fingers through mine before bringing our joined hands to his mouth and brushing a feather-light kiss on my hand.

“We can go somewhere public if you want. I want you to be comfortable. I just want to spend time with you.”

I open my mouth to respond, but he places a finger on my lips, silencing me.

“Besides, I plan on keeping you for a lot longer than one night.”

“You do?” The shock from his statement is clear in my response.

“Do you think I go around kissing just anyone like that?” He winks before leading me toward his motorcycle.

I don’t know what game Callen is playing, but it seems I’m about to become an all-too-willing victim.
