“And who the fuck are you?” the beefcake roared as he set his gaze on mine.
“The redhead.” My voice was husky, strange and detached. “Where did they take her?”
“Back to my place.” He grinned, eyes wide with rage. “Where I’m gonna fuck her.”
A nerve twitched in the corner of my eye as I reached around and palmed the weapon. “I’m going to ask you one last time. Be very careful how you answer.”
“Laz,” Logan warned.
But I was past listening, past caring, past any savage boundary I’d ever had.
A serpent lived under my skin.
Black,gleaming.I felt the smoothness of its scales, and the flicker of its forked tongue. It scented him now, tasted his fear that tainted the air and as I took a step closer, I saw the flare of surprise in the asshole’s eyes. “Where…did…they…take…her?”
His breath caught. Eyes widened. I drew the Glock out from behind me.
“G-Gare du Nord,” he whispered.
“Where?” I murmured, lifting the gun.
“Breguet—”
Bang!I pulled the trigger, watching his head fly backwards. Blood splatter misted in the air as I turned to the towering former solider. “How long?”
“Twenty min—” he started, staring at the dead man.
“You’ve got ten.” I strode toward the open doors of the four-wheel drive.
They said nothing as they climbed in around me. Not Logan, not Freddy nor Ice as he climbed into the passenger’s seat, leaving our contact to slide into the driver’s seat.
They watched me like I was a stranger. Maybe I was…I glanced out the window as the engine gunned and we shot forward. Lights twinkled in the distance. And even as they grew closer, I knew it wasn’t fast enough.
We’d never make it.

“Let me go!”I screamed, until the heavy hand clamped around my mouth.
I kicked and bucked, clawing like a wildcat, and tried to breathe. But the hold over my face smashed my lips against my teeth, smothering my nose.
My ribs couldn’t move, lungs held tight. The howl for air was desperate inside me as the stairs blurred.
“Enough!”my captor roared, dragging me backwards.
No…NO!The glint of headlights in the distance drove me harder. Salvation was just a glimpse away. I opened my mouth until the edges of my lips burned, thenbit. Myteeth sank into soft flesh, carving deep, until the fetid, metallic tang of blood bloomed in my mouth.
The howl was instant. Deafening.
Movement came from the corner of my eye before my head cracked to the side. Agony detonated, ripping through my skull. Stars were all I saw. White, hot…blinding.
“Youfuckingbitch!” he roared, wrenching me around to face him.
