From the corner of my eye, Kat smiled and looked away.Fucking idiots.

They were all fun and games, until the doors opened. Then they became what I needed them to be. Predatory, formidable, brutally loyal. I gripped Kat’s hand and stepped out. Movement came from the edges of my vision. Men in thousand-dollar suits and women all dressed the same in knee-length black dresses and stilettos fluttered around the place. Phones rang, voices murmured. The place was a beehive of frenzied activity, but I didn’t pay any attention. Instead, I strode forward, scanning the open floor until I caught sight of the bastard’s name on an office door.

“Wait,” a guy snapped, shoving himself upright from behind his desk as we headed toward that door. “You can’t just—”

He reached for the phone on the desk in front of him, until Logan stepped forward. “I don’t think so,” the former SEAL murmured and stared him down.

All heads turned toward us and eyes widened, glancing from Kat to me. But I didn’t give a fuck about their prissy goddamn expressions. One of them even burst into tears. Jesus fucking Christ. I reached the door, turned the handle, and shoved the fucking thing wide.

The scumbag was reclining behind his desk, talking on the phone, when we burst in. But there was no widening of his eyes as he shifted his gaze from me to the men at my back. I faintly heard the thunder of footsteps and the call for“SECURITY!”

“Go ahead, call them,” I urged. “I’ve always wanted to see someone fly from this high up.”

“Mr. VanHalen!”some asshole called behind us.

I just narrowed my gaze on his. Those beady fucking eyes didn't flinch. He knew…he knew that I knew.

“It’s okay, Alex,” he said carefully, and shifted his gaze to Kat’s. “It’s my daughter.”

Her hand went slack in mine. Not from relief, from revulsion. His daughter?I don’t think so.

“Close the door,” VanHalen called softly. “And leave.”

The foul bastard had the gall to look at Logan, Freddy, and Neon before meeting my gaze.

“They stay,” I declared. “I have no secrets from my brothers.”

And I didn’t. It was the reason why they were here, why none was going to back down when it came to facing this monster. I wanted to kill him here and now, walk into this office, put a gun to his head, and pull the trigger. I wanted to splatter his brains all over the tinted glass walls behind him.

But that wasn’t the plan.

Kill one rat and the others scurried. We might find some, we might not.

But if we waited…if we bided our time…

He didn't shift his gaze from mine until the door closed, then he looked at Kat, his gaze moving from her face to her belly, then to her hand in mine. “I see you’ve come home, Katerina.”

I laughed. “Home?” I lifted my hand, showing him the ring. “This is all the home she needs.”

Hate flared in the motherfucker’s gaze. “That means nothing. She’s my daughter.”

“See,” I let her hand go and splayed out my hands on the edge of his desk before leaning down. “She’s not your daughter anymore. I don’t even know if she was yours to begin with. You weren’t a father, just a disgusting piece of fucking shit that let other men use and abuse her.”

There was a twitch at the corner of his mouth. He didn’t like others knowing…didn’t like it one bit.

“But all that has ended. She’s mine now, and if you and any of your fucking pedophile buddies eventhinkabout coming near her, I’ll paint this fucking city red with your blood.”

His jaw clenched as he jerked his gaze to mine. “I paid five million dollars to those assholes who kidnapped her.”

“Neon,” I murmured without looking away. “Pay the man.”

Sebastian VanHalen just laughed. “Don’t be ridiculous, you don’t have that kind of money.”

“Five million, you said?” Neon muttered, punching the details into his phone before glancing toward VanHalen. “Account number.”

“What?" Sebastian VanHalen muttered.

“Your account number,”Neon said slowly, as if to someone too stupid to understand.
