Logan was there listening to everything. “This is good,” he spoke to Laz, trying to calm him.

“The fuck it is,” my husband snarled, white knuckles showing from his clenched fists.

“We can use this, Laz. All we need is to find this bastard and a way in and then he won’t stand a chance.”

Laz gave him his back. I felt the storm brewing, filling the air with the bitter stench of his rage.

Until with a rush Lazarus turned and lunged, grabbing Logan by the shirt and screaming. “Do you realise what I’m doing right now? The only fucking thing I promised to never do…using my goddamn wife as bait.”

“I don’t care.” I stared at the concrete floor. “I don’t care. We need to do whatever it takes to get her back.”

Kat

Beep.

My cell vibrated. I looked down, finding a message.

Unknown Caller ID:The car will be there within the hour to collect you. Don’t bother having that thug you call a husband kill him. One wrong move, Katerina, and your daughter and I will be gone. This depends on you following my instructions carefully. Do you understand?

Did I understand? I didn’t have a choice. I had to follow his exact commands, or risk losing my daughter forever. Lazarus paced the warehouse as I typed out a response:

Me:Yes, I understand.

Laz glanced my way, watching as I replied. “The moment you get into that car you’re going to be searched. They’re going to throw everything at us, trying to get rid of the tail.” He stepped closer, capturing my chin. “I’m going to need you to keep your head about this, kitten. Gonna need you to be careful.”

“She needs a tracker.” Logan turned and strode toward the end of the warehouse, disappearing into the gloom. He was gone for a while, and for a second I thought he’d left before he came striding back toward me, carrying a small plastic case in his hand.

“The office, Kat,” he murmured.

I followed as he led the way, placing that small plastic case on the end of the desk.

“Close the door, Laz,” he instructed, then pulled something tiny out from the foam insert.

The thud followed before my husband rounded the end of the desk. “This is gonna be too obvious,” he muttered, glancing at Logan. “They’ll scan her the moment she gets into the car.”

“That’s what we want.” He pulled a tiny tracking device out from the case. “This one they’re gonna find. We want them to find it.”

He stepped closer, lifting his hand, and never once did he look away. “Open your blouse, Kat.”

Laz scowled, but I didn’t hesitate. I opened the buttons, leaving him to reach into his pocket and pull out a flick knife. One tiny slice in the lining of my bra and he slipped the tracker in before pressing down and leaving me to fix my strap.

“But it’s this one they won’t track.” He lifted the tiny speck between two big fingers. “These ones I had made especially for this. I just wished I hadn’t had a reason to use them.”

He rounded the desk and yanked open the drawer, digging under the mess in the top drawer to pull out some wad of plastic. “I’m going to fix this on the inside. That way if they make you remove your underwear they won’t even think about your ring.”

He was right. They wouldn’t. My father would think removing the gold from my fingers tacky, even if he did despise the man I married. I re-buttoned my top before sliding off my wedding ring. Logan grabbed it, his attention fixed on pressing the tracker against the putty and fixing it on the inside of the band.

“As long as you don’t take this off, Kat, we’ll be able to track you, no matter where they take you.”

Laz let out a pent-up breath. “We need to get you ready. We’ll have men right behind you, they’ll be following you for as long as they can. But you need to be prepared for his driver to do everything he can to throw us off. Can you do that? Can you keep your head?”

“For you, and our daughter? Yeah, I can. Whatever it takes, right?”

He smiled and pulled me into his arms. That’s my wife.”

I read it myself as much as I could, adjusting my clothes and taking a drink of water, until there was a knock at the door. Logan walked around the desk and opened it.
