“I’m going to fuckingkillthem,” Baldeon howled again as two beefy security staff held him up from under his arms. “No one messes with a Baldeon and fucking lives!”

“Easy,” a man who stood on the deck urged. “You rip your wound open any more, and I’m going to have Manny here knock you the fuck out.”

Baldeon’s lips curled as he fought that animal need to lash out. The engine of the cruiser roared as it cut through the choppy waves. I gripped the table as the glinting lights of the island came into view.Thank God.

My stomach churned and clenched. I wanted off this damn thing.Now.

“Building one,” the older guy ordered, stabbing a bloodstained finger toward the top of the rise. “Get him to the infirmary.”

Voices cut through the air. I didn’t pay any attention. Not untilshemoved.

Anna was quiet, and fast, keeping her head down, not drawing attention to herself as the boat engine revved in reverse, driving us backwards toward the dock. I lifted my gaze to the towering buildings high up on the island as she stepped in behind the others. But the sight of those buildings held me. Concrete and glass, they reminded me of the Hale Building.

God, I felt sick.

“Now, careful getting off the ramp, people. I don’t want you rolling a damn ankle before you even step onto the island,” the guy they called the Commander growled.

I stepped forward, discreetly moving in ahead of her, not wanting to scare her off, and took my time in the damn heels. The heavier thud of steps behind me was followed by anoof.

Something hit the ground hard.

Laughter followed…from one asshole in particular, as I turned to see Anna sprawled out on the ground.

“Fucking hell, nice spill,” he roared, and the rest of the crowd sniggered.

“Shut up, you asshole,” I barked, and strode forward, driving my elbow in as I pushed him aside.

I grabbed her arm just as a low, threatening sound spilled through the air, quieting the sniggers.

“Anna.”

That growl was all possessiveness. I glanced over my shoulder, to find Finley Salvatore striding through the parting crowd toward her. There was nothing I could do, nothing Finley wouldletme do, but stand aside while he took control.

“Fin?” Anna croaked, her eyes wide and filled with terror. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Me?” He leaned over her. “I could ask you the same?”

“I got her,” I declared, slipping my arm around Anna as he helped her to stand.

Then he turned on the guy who'd laughed.

I’d never seen someone react so damn fast. He grabbed the idiot who'd decided a woman tripping in front of him was funny by the shirt and dragged him up close. Threats were given and the poor asshole didn’t stand a chance. Not when one ofthefamily’s sons had it out for you.

I just stood by Anna’s side.

Watching as she turned from pale to positively gray under the island's lights.

Fin turned back, glanced my way, and came toward her. “You sure you’re okay?” His thumb gently brushed her bloodied lip before she looked away.

I let them have their moment, trying not to eavesdrop, until I felt the heat of Finley’s gaze. For a second, the idea floated to me. Finley Salvatore was rich, powerful, and very well connected…and totally not into me.

I met his gaze as he shoved out a hand. “Finley Salvatore.”

“Kat VanHalen,” I answered, and forced a smile.

“Do you have your building yet?” he asked, but it wasn’t me he spoke to.

The brunette dragged her phone from her pocket and stared at the cracked screen. “Shit.”
