“It’s just a phone, Anna.” Finley took the broken thing from her hand. “Use mine.”

“It’s got all my identification,” she muttered.

“You and your damn encryptions, Anna,” he sighed.

“Finley,” a bodyguard called from the edge of the grass. He glanced toward the brunette and gave a nod. “Anna.”

“Max,” she answered coldly.

Okay, so something was going on there.

“Anna…the damn password,” Finley urged, his tone softening.

“Salvatoresucks,” she whispered, her cheeks turning red.

“Salvatore…sucks,” he muttered, punching in the letters. “No special character?”

She gave a tiny shake of her head. “No, no special character.”

“Building five,” he announced. “With a Miss VanHalen.”

“Oh, that’s me,” I tried to act surprised.

“I’ll make sure she gets to her building, Mr. Salvatore.” A guard from the cruiser stepped forward.

A nod from Finley as he met her gaze. “Sleep, Anna. Classes start tomorrow. It’s just an introduction, but you'll still need to be focused.”

“Make sure she’s inside before you leave,” he commanded the guard. “Any problems, I want to be notified first. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Mr. Salvatore.”

“And just for the record, Anna…the Salvatores not onlysuck, they lick and bite, as well.”

I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing as she just froze.

He left then, striding toward his bodyguard and leaving us alone.

“Come on.” I slipped my hand through her arm. “Let’s find building five.”

I made small talk with her as the security guard led us toward our building, probing her with questions about Finley. But the evidence of her infatuation was written all over her face. Annalise Eden was head over heels in love with Finley Salvatore and, if that lion-protecting-his-mate attack before was anything to go on, Finley was a goner for her, as well.

Which made her very interesting.

I swallowed as my belly jerked and my body rocked, nauseous and still rolling with the waves. “Best friends.” The words seemed to tumble from my lips amongst the lies of having the time of our lives and being the most incredible roommates ever.

Anna just smiled and laughed as the guard stopped outside one of the accommodation buildings and swiped the card to open the door.

“Your card, Miss Eden,” he said as he handed Anna hers then handed me mine. “Miss VanHalen.”

I took the key card and slipped it into my clutch, watching as Anna’s eyes widened with wonder. It was easy to see she didn’t come from money, not real money, the kind that warped your view of the real world.

The kind that created monsters…

And let them feed on the weak.
