There was a flicker of hurt before he smothered it with a smile. “Oh, sure.”

“Just getoutof my way,” the snarl came from the doorway.

I glanced toward Anna as she was shoved to the side.

She stumbled as some towering broad with a resting bitchface pushed through.Gian…something.I tried to place her. I think her daddy owned a few casinos. Black suits and muscled chests followed her as Anna tried to right herself. My jaw clenched as I caught the flare of panic in Anna’s gaze.

Anna, who was good.

Anna, who needed someone looking out for her, someone other than Finley Salvatore.

“You’re just an accident waiting to happen, aren’t you?” I whispered as Anna came close, carefully watching the tall bitch who'd shoved her.

“I warned you,” she answered, her cheeks reddening.

Jake tried to engage me in conversion.

I had purpose now, something more than pretending to be someone I wasn’t.

“Enough now.” I glanced at Jake. “My friend is here.”

He just stopped mid-sentence, then glanced Anna’s way in confusion.

But I didn’t care anymore. I was fixed on that bitch that needed an attitude adjustment.

“This place fucking terrifies me,” Anna mumbled.

“Of course it does, sweetheart.” I agreed, still staring daggers into that bitch as I patted her thigh. “Don’t you worry about a damn thing. Kat’s got your back.”

“Quiet down, everyone!” the lecturer barked from the front of the room.

“You okay?” I double-checked.

She just turned her head and glanced behind us. I followed her gaze, finding Finley Salvatore holding her stare.

Goosebumps raced across my arms at the heat in his gaze. I knew that kind of look, and what it meant. Anna Eden was caught in a trap, only she didn’t know yet it’d already sprung. I glanced her way, finding the dark cloud of confusion and annoyance.

“Do you know anything about some kind of initiation?” she whispered.

“Nope.” I focused on the lecturer. “Why?”

“I don’t know…” she glanced at Finley again. “But I think something strange is going on.”

“Don’t worry about it,” I responded. “We have more important things to worry about.”

“Yeah?” She lifted her eyes to mine.

“What the hell are we going to wear to the damn party tonight?”

“Party?” She glanced my way, her eyes widening. “What party?

“The party were going to,” I answered with a grin. “Tonight.”

* * *

The party wassexy as hell.

Thumping and dark, full of dark corners and darker deeds.
